writing letter of reccommendation

so one of my friends is applying for grad school, and the application asks for a letter of reccommendation. The application specifies that you can have a personal contact to give a reccomendation too. So my friend is deciding to have a few professional reccomendations, and also have me write one for her.

I am a close personal friend who has known my friend for 3 years or so. I feel that I know a lot about her, but how do I write this letter? She is my friend, not my classmate, so I dont really have much comments on her major school work.

How is this suppose to work out?

first of all, since they call it "letter" of reccomendation, do I have to start with Dear Sir or whatever? if not, do I need to put a title, or can I just start writing? how is the format?

what about the length?

any tips guys?

Do I use first person, i.e, "I think, she is a great person because..."?

She doesn't have a template or list of questions she is supposed to ask you to write about? I wrote a letter of recommendation for my buddy, but i had a series of questions to answer. Made it pretty easy.

write about reliability, dependability, and so on and so forth.

and make sure you use a spell checker.

having a friend right it just doesn't sound the same.

oh, and also use spell check, it's recommendation not reccomendation 🙂
