i just figured out how the chinese transcription of a phrase i really like is but i saw it from left to right.

i was wondering if i take the individual symbols and organize them in the same order from top to bottom whether it will still make sense?

my bad if this is ignorant i don't know anything about chinese!!!!

thanks!!!!!!!!

the phrase is "plant melon get melon, plant bean get bean"
it basically means "you reap what you sow"

don't have an ftp but im working on a link if anyone wants to see it!

Written language is usually read from top to bottom, such as books, newspapers, etc. Characters written as one line are read from left to right.

No, it doesn't. I actually didn't read your whole post. It's more of a space constraint really. You don't generally see multiple lines being written from left to right like in written english. A 1 liner from top to bottom is ok.

what about a sentence broken up in 2 columns each containing 4 symbols?

would that make sense or would ppl try to read it left to right as in 4 rows each with 2 characters?
