Sometime in September, 2007, Microsoft released the Messenger Kit for Xbox 360 controllers (Pic Here) which includes that little keyboard that plugs into the controller. It works great as an addition to Xbox 360 consoles to allow for quick messaging access. I've looked around for half a day to see if there was support of this device on Windows and found that as of this month, there still isn't any news of PC support. I could see this being very useful for many HTPC and recreational computing applications especially with a wireless controller and I personally want to just do away with my keyboard on my Vista computer because honestly this computer is used for either 1. chatting, 2. gaming, or 3. posting on AT and other forums.
I'm currently using my Xbox360 controller as a mouse through a program called Xpadder. While the movements aren't as fast and precise as with my MX518, I don't generally find that distracting because I'm not being pressed for time. It's very comfortable and I basically just sit back and click on threads in AT but I keep having to take my hands off my controller to post. This is where the Chatpad comes into play. If there were drivers for that, I would no longer need a mouse nor a keyboard except for the period before I set up the controller with Chatpad. I'm thinking Microsoft won't work on those drivers ever (unless they prove me wrong before I head back to campus) because there probably isn't a large enough userbase for it. My general idea is...why have a mouse + keyboard when you can have a controller that can be used as both? How can I write drivers for something like this? Is it even possible unless I work at Microsoft and have access to their resources?
Thanks a lot guys & gals.
