I've seen several resume threads here in the past, but I've never had one to post. I'm in the military and am looking to transition out. Keep in mind that what I've put together so far is my first draft and geared toward military contractors with job openings realated to my career field. I would like some feedback on the overall flow since I've never had to write a resume before.

Please post your opinions and how I might make it better.
Thanks,
JR..

My resume in word document
It is a word file, but if you don't feel comfortable opening a file off a geocities site from some Joe Schmoe like me then then don't click the link. I won't hold it against you.

My first suggestion is to pick up a one of the free pdf converters. Open Office screwed it up slightly, and in my experience MSWord format is not really a reliable transmission format, even when using word.

In any case...
Most contractors, IME, don't have access to DSN, so if you want to save some space, you could drop that. contractors co-located on a base may be a different story though.

Put some indication of what clearances you have on there. You list comsec stuff, so you must have it. That's a go/nogo for many defense contractor jobs, so make it easy to find.

When I read a resume, I like to see "job goals" section ... ie., what do you want to do/what kind of job are you looking for.

It's very dense, which tends to be hard to read after you've already read a few dozen of these. Try to slim it down on the first page. Maybe expand the details a bit more on the second page.

Thanks. You're right I forgot to mention my security clearance. The goals section was one I left out so I could use the space for qualificaitons. I thought it was a little dense too, but at the same time I was under the impression that a resume was supposed to all fit on one page (as a rule of thumb).

What about two page resumes? Generally a good or bad idea, because there's a lot more stuff I wanted to mention.

Two pages are OK, but generally, they'll only see the second page if you sell em with the first page.
