Writing a paper?

The best way I've found to make a paper longer without drawing too much attention is by writing more.

You can do the same thing by adjusting the line spacing and kerning. On a four page paper, even a point or a fraction of a point can give you a few more inches.

Weird that it would increase it that much. Maybe having a size 14 character in a line is enough to make the line height/spacing bigger. If that's so, you might as well just screw with that directly.

This doesn't work if you have half a brain. It's like turning a double spaced paper into a 2.5 spaced. (You'd prob get the same thing if you format the paragrahs to 2.5) It's really noticeable.

Homer: Well, what do you think?
Editor: This is a joke, right? I mean this is the stupidest thing
I've ever read!
Homer: What's wrong with it?
Editor: You keep using words like "Pasghetti" and "Momatoes" You
make numerous threatening references to the UN and at the
end you repeat the words "Screw Flanders" over and over
again.
Homer: Oh, it's so hard to get to 500 words.

super, super obvious, even for half-blind teachers.

most of my profs in college required certain fonts to be used (TNR in 99% of cases). but really, writing a long paper isn't that hard... if you're having trouble reaching the minimum number of pages, you're probably not going in-depth enough.

Courier, adding 4 pages to your 10 page paper since 1955. 😉

That would make a good t-shirt

i had to write a 60 page paper once.

luckily it was supposed to be double spaced courier new.

i typed it in times new roman and single spaced because that made it into just a 10 page paper

Let me give you guys the benefit of my years and years of experience.
It is way better to to just write the paper as required than it is to try to find short cuts. In the end, you will write better and it will pay dividends in the future.
That's part of why the schools are trying to teach you to write. You WILL need to write, you may not need algebra.
😉

My problem was usually that I wrote too much. 😱 I was a computer science major, so I didn't have to write papers per se very often. But I did have to write documentation for my projects. For my senior project, which was a 2 person group project that took 10 days, I turned in over 100 pages of documentation (including about 50 pages of diagrams). 😱

I have to say, one of the hardest paper assignment I ever had was my modern world lit teacher, who had us write 1 page papers... but only 1 page, and the papers had to have a solid thesis/argument (ie: no 1-page plot summaries). that was an assignment I pulled out all the stops for, increasing the margins and decreasing the font size. lol. (the only rule was that he had to be able to read it without his glasses)

I usually do more character spacing, decrease margins, use more adverbs and adjectives.

So far this year (freshman) I haven't had to write anything over 7 pages long. We had a CS report thats was about 40 pages, but it was mostly diagrams, graphs, and code.

Yes, once you actually begin to write real university papers (beyond 2nd year) the challenge becomes the maximum page limit rather than the minimum.
It takes more skill to create a cogent, intelligent, and well documented 10 page paper than some 25 page train wreck.

Whenever my teachers would tell me that a paper was too long (I never ran too short), I would tell them that it was exactly as long as it needed to be. Worked well.

Maybe it can work in reverse?
