I have to write a paper on all the steps to creating a database for a dentists office. In the paper, I have to include steps such as the software life cycle, software characteristics, process, methods, and tools. I was wondering if anyone would like to throw in their .02 cents about the topic, like what else you would include. Please refrain from just saying pointless stuff, because I am actually quite serious about this and would like some positive feedback.

Be kind, as this is from memory ... I think distilled from IEEE 12207, which is about 150 pages long.

1) Requirements
2) Architechture
3) Design
4) Construction
5) Validation

About each phase:

Using requirements as an example ... The requirements PROCESS is to work with customers and users. The output of the process is a work PRODUCT. In this case, a requirement document.

A PROCESS generates a PRODUCT.

THe PROCESS for each phase should be described in some level of detail and followed. Everybody on the team should be encouraged to follow the proces, so that the team is working in consistent patterns. Making certain that the PROCESS is followed is the role of Quality Assurance.

The PRODUCT for each phase should have a standard and be measured according to that standard. Everybody should be encouraged to adhere to the standard, so that the work products from one project will be similar, making them easy to work with and maintain. Making certain that the work PRODUCT matches the standard is the role of Quality Control.

Neither Quality Assurance or Quality Control have any specific coorelation to Testing, per se.

No it's not really a big deal. It's gonna be on the final and I just want to get some ideas. I had some, just thought I'd broaden my ideas by gaining from others.
