applying for a job I really want to land and want to get this right. as you can see from the letter i'm applying for a video editing position for a small tv station

<start>

Dear Sir or Madam,

This letter is in response to the ad placed on the Show Low city web site for the part time video technician position. I was excited to find such a position in a town like Show Low, because I have been looking for a while to make a break from the city life here in Phoenix.

Starting in high school I was heavily involved in all areas of video production from running large multi-camera shoots, to editing highlight reels for the football team. This interest in video followed me to college where I've recently obtained my Associates in Visual Communications specializing in Digital Video. I work equally well alone as I do with a team, I feel this is very important in my field because both qualities are required to work effectively.

Enclosed is a copy of my resume which highlights my extensive knowledge and experience in video production. I also included a copy of my demo reel from college which highlights some of my work from there.

I look forward to talking with you on my future with your organization

<End>

thanks in advanced

If you are seeking an employee who stays abreast of her field, who understands technology, who earns 100% staff support, and who is as career-committed as it takes to achieve total success, then please consider what I have to offer. I would be happy to have a preliminary discussion with you or members of your committee to see if we can establish a mutual interest. I will call you within the week to answer any initial questions you may have, and to hear about your hiring process.

Thank you for your attention to these materials. I certainly look forward to exploring this further.

Yours truly,
XXXXX

Not to be mean or anything. I am just trying to be helpful, but you really need to have someone proof read your cover letter for grammar and spelling.

MrYogi, I don't know if you just wrote that on top of your head or not but it's too template like. When I first read it, I am getting the feeling that it could've been directed at anyone. It's too generic. I wouldn't like it at all if I received such a generic cover letter. It tells a lot about the person. That the position is not important enough for him/her to take 30 minutes out of his/her life to draft a cover letter.

If you really want the job, take the time to make the cover letter with a little more personal touch. Make the person who reads the cover letter feel like you are addressing him/her and not just anyone.
