Write combining - Any dangers in turning it off?

My friend has told me that for nVidia graphics cards, turning off Write Combining is supposed to bring large FPS boost in oblivion. My question is, will the adversely affect other games? What does it do? etc. Thanks.

Performance boost? I don't think so. It simply combines commands to reduce overhead as far as I know.

This is a compatibility setting that can reduce performance if disabled.

Furthermore I'm unsure how relevant it is to PCIe since it has its roots tied to the original PCI spec.

It's possible but I doubt it. You could always try it and see how you go.

The setting is generally for compatibility, not for performance.
