This is driving me mad, I think i might have wrecked my motherboard or somthing connected to it. I took the side of my tower while it was running and my PC froze up with a horrible scratchy sound, when I restarted, I could not get back into windows properly with out seeing pixlation... half the icons were missing and mouse curser was gone etc,

I could get into windows safe mode no problem tho.

I took out the 120 GB IDE hard drive as I was formatting anyway...

I just bought 2 new hard drives (2X 320GB seagate 16mb sataII) for my computer and installed them.

When Installing windows XP from the CD, it doesnt matter if my hard drives are set for RAID or just Normal.... soon as the immediate drivers are done loading, I get a nasty blue screen of death...

doesnt matter what hard drive I use or what hard drive mode, this blue screen comes up when it's time to select what I want to do with windows xp (repair, install fresh etc.)

Any idea's on this ASAP would be extremely helpful..

thank you in advance.

My first thought was that you damaged your hd by jarring it while it was running, crashing the heads onto the platters. Since it happens whith other drives though, you may have shorted something. Time to pull the mb, inspect it closely, and try running it on the bench with just the cpu/hsf, ram, and vid card. If all seems well, try adding a hd, an optical drive, and a floppy if necessary (still on the bench), and installing Windows.

well heres the thing, it boots up no problem and i can get into the bios, save and ext and do anything there, the video being displayed in the bios is fine, and i can select my boot devices etc, etc,, all works fine, so maybe it isnt the mainboard. when my computer crashed, it was with the 120 GB (which is now in my dads computer, formatted and running great).

the dual 320's are right out of the box and installed after the crash, also Sata, instead of IDE like the older hard drive.

and no matter what, once the windows is done loading files i get a blue screen with 0x7b... which is supposed to be a problem where windows lost the partition or boot device or somthing..
