WRC on a budget.

I've seen European rally video clips where the typical cars are blazing by, and then here comes a 20 year old Volvo hanging sideways, or some old beater Citroen, then some more modern cars, then some old hatchback that looks like an AMC Pacer. I guess you can race just about anything.

"They said that I must be part Mexican because of the way I fix my car. That's a compliment, right?"

hahaha

Looking now but it's hardly a $500 car vs $400k. None of those cars are $400k, they're more like $30-40k. Oh, you mean they've been pimped up to kingdom come, kind of like his? Yeah...

Anyway, interesting nonetheless. Hatin' done.

If you read the comments it looks like he placed third in class, and 23rd overall. There were 25 WRC class entries, so he did end up beating a couple of serious rally cars. Great story!

First rule of journalism, don't let the truth ruin a good story.

He didn't beat any $400k rally cars, in fact he didn't even win his class. and he wasn't part of the WRC event, rather he was in the Rally America event that was run alongside the WRC event. What's all the hub bub about? There are tons of garage racers out there just like this guy that are rallying vw rabbits, mazda 323 GTX's, and Honda CRX's. How about the 2 guys who finished ahead of him in his class. I would bet bottom dollar that they are also regular working joes who built a cheap rally car in their garage. Only difference is, their friend didn't write a sensationalized article about them on Jalopnik.
