WPA: How did it go if you lets say, Switched Mobo's?

I will be getting a new mobo, some DDR, and a new vid card. I'm just wondering how WPA went because, I'm considering doing something like, trying a K7S5A just for the sake of trying it, selling it, and then getting something else, and I'm just wondering how much trouble you had getting MS to reactivate windows. Thanks!

i had issues when i had to reload xp like 4 times in a row, i had to call up and get a number to plug in to get windows going again. it was painless, but took about 20 minutes of my time. you'll probably have more problems with hdd controllers and whatnot, as it runs on an NT core and it doesn't seem to take well to changing motherboards (as seen on this forum and in my own experiences with win2k/xp).

good luck. 🙂

fisher how is windows 2000 involving the same thing as windows xp when switching mobos ?
Like you said here sorta: (as seen on this forum and in my own experiences with win2k/xp).

Windows 2000 does not take up of any of your time. You just install the new mobo and off you go.

I did not have a problem (when I was running an RC). I switched MOBOs and video cards. I did a fresh install every time. Recently I had to F-disk and reinstall twice in a row and I had no problems with WPA.

because it's essential the same underneath, as opposed to let's say... xp & win98. i have a win2k box that has a via chipset mb and a k62 in it right now. i attempted to put a p2-400 & intel motherboard in it and i had nothing but nightmares. i really didn't wanna reinstall it, so i put it back like it is. also read the thread in the OS section about the guy having a similar problem installing a new raid motherboard.

i'm not saying it's guaranteed to be a problem, but moreso than dealing with wpa is.

I haven't tried switching motherboards yet, but switching hard drives is a pain. I had a 30GB IBM that I switched for an 80GB Maxtor. I Ghosted my Windows XP partition, and everything appeared to go OK. When I put it on the 80GB drive, I copied it to a partition that was 4 GB bigger than the one it was in on the 30GB drive. When I tried to get into Windows, I got some error that said my registration information could not be validated or something, don't remember exactly. Anyway, I ended up having to format and reinstall.
