WP7 phones are now free. Weak sales?

The Samsung Focus is considerably outselling the Quantum and Surround. Probably trying to combat that.

Almost everybody on at&t is choosing the focus.... that probably has more to do with it than anything. You would have to be kinda stupid to choose anything but the focus when they were all the same price so they are marking those down to better compete.

att.com still lists them as 199 with a 2 yr contract. doesnt help that they are all 3 at the bottom of a long page of smart phones, with the top 7 being iphones. at least they could have bumped them to the 8th spot so people would actually look at them on the web page.

Its amazon. Their shit goes on discount fast.

Not exactly..

Amazon has special subsidy-sharing arrangements with carriers that allow them to discount their phones below most other retailers. For this reason, when you buy selected launch smartphones from Amazon, you may be locked into two different contracts (and two different ETFs!) that prevent you from canceling prematurely. After 6 months, the Amazon contract expires, leaving you with just the carrier's ETF to worry about if you cancel early.

Did anyone really think WP7 would do as well on ATT as it could have if they had been able to launch with Verizon/Sprint?

But really, in terms of the devices, this is more about what happens when you have too many different options at launch. One will always be the clear 'best' choice and when pricing is the same for all options it's a no brainer. It's no different with Android phones.

I don't think its doing bad considering there was virtually no awareness of the product before launch outside of phone nerds. I've started to see the commercials on alot, so maybe it'll pick up through the holiday season.

Yeah, I think they'll do just fine. The commercials are pretty decent too. "Really?"

The product placement with phones in TV shows really gets annoying though (not limited to WP7).

Example - The Bones episode from last night:
"Oh I need to send a text to Hodgins" home screen-->contacts-->Hodgins-->send txt. Though, kinda funny since I blurted out "ugh, really?"

Considered there were not alot of hype surround WP7 outside of phone enthusiasts, slow start is expected. Heck even on a tech site like anandtech, there were not alot of buzz about WP7 leading up to launch. Not many threads about WP7 on here at all.
