BF1942 isn't the only game that benefits from more memory. UT2003 loves 1GB (as compared to 512MB).

Hey TK149, no that list has not been updated in a while...I upgraded to an Athlon XP1600 on an ECS K7S5A..but everything else is the same, and I did play it on the 650 rig for a while using win98..ran pretty well, not great but not bad, took a long time to load though.

I'd try it with the GF4....its a significant improvement over the Radeon DDR and any other card of that generation (GF1, GF2, V5, KyroII etc.). If you were limited to a lower resolution and low-detail levels, you'll be able to increase the resolution and max out details w/out a problem.

I'm pretty sure that ut2k3 stops at 512. It should only have minimal paging past 256. I could be wrong but I think this is in the readme.

Don't worry, at your pace you'll be there in 2 weeks. ;)

Anyways, I think I saw on UT2K3's dev site that the 2K3 engine would benefit from more than 512MB.

My post was based on my own personal experiences. I had 512MB of memory (PC2100) and UT2K3 ran fine but when I exited the game into WinXP, my system would be slow and the pagefile would get raped for a few minutes. I then upgraded to 1GB of PC2100 and my fps went up by about 5fps (minimal I know but measureable). Most significant, though, is that when I exited to WinXP, the slowness and pagefile rapeage ended. The program exited clean and the system was good to go immediately. System at that time: KT333, AXP 1900+ Palomino, GF4 Ti 4200, 512MB/1GB PC2100, WinXP Pro

That is the basis for my above post. Take it for what you will.

I hadn't noticed, Thanks!!

Sim City is definately a bitch on ram.

I've been running a 32 meg ram disk for a while that I put my browser cache on. Huge difference, very fast surfing.

same here.. my 200,000 person city is crawling on my athlon 2000, 512 pc 2700, radeon 9700 system

turning down some things to medium (like shadows) and others to low (cars/sims) helps a LOT

i'm thinking of grabbing another 512 ram for $80 from crucial though
