On Monday afternoon, my partner and I attended "The Strangers," at Regal, Union Square. In the past, our experiences here have been wonderful, with friendly staff and a comfortable environment. $12 a ticket is pricey, but it's worth it for an hour or two of pleasant, quiet escapism.

I was SHOCKED when a manager of this studio came into our auditorium after the trailers had started to panhandle from patrons. The manager said something about collecting pocket change for a charity that Regal believes in. Then the staff proceeded to go around, foisting a money-bag in patrons' faces and loudly asking, "Do you have anything you want to give?" It really put people on the spot, in front of others. The whole experience of being aggressively begged from in a space that we had paid to relax in was painfully awkward. It's rude, and it alienates customers.

I've never had that happen to me, hopefully it never does but either way I rarely give donations to people like that. Dont really trust some random Joe with a can walking around, for all I know they could just be pocketing the cash .. .. no Im not a schizo ...

I guess the SW is ahead (behind?) in some things. At one time or another, all the movie houses tried it here before the customers said take a hike.

If I paid $12 for a ticket to the movies, I'd be the one passing around a bag asking for donations...:D

Fuck them. If they want donations, they should go wash windshields like the other bums do...;)

A theater near me tried that for a while. It must not have lasted though since it only occurred once. People go there to get their mind off the world. I don't need to know about limbless people or the homeless at that time.

I worked at movie theaters when I was in high school (in the 80's) and we did that every summer for the Will Rogers Foundation.

I've had them run clips for the jimmy fund or something similar before and stand around with a can. They never shove it in your face, they just wait around to see if anybody waves them over.

I think I would call them out and tell them loudly and firmly how inappropriate their actions were.
I would also ask to speak to the manager, request a refund, and complain to the corporate office.
That's just ridiculous.

WTF is the Jimmy Fund? And I've never had anyone come around asking for money at the movies. Since I never go unless it's something I REALLY want to see I'd be really pissed if they wasted time on crap like that.

And movie theaters wonder why people would much rather stay home and relax in front of their home theater. Retarded.

Jimmy fund is more of a New England thing which is most likely why a lot nave never heard of it, but the idea of supporting a charity and asking for donations at a movie thearter is not forign to me and does not bother me at all

some of you need to take the lamp post you have suck up your asses out

I've never had that happen at a movie theater either and I think zeruty is on the right track with his response.
