Wow, who knew tech support could rule?

So, I recently got hired as a Tech Support representative in a Call-center for a major Ontario ISP (Cogeco Cable).

I'm a 21 year old university student, moving into my own place starting August.

My starting pay is 16.22 an hour, more than double what I was making before. Guaranteed 20 hours a week, lots of overtime.

Full digital cable line-up (Minus the boobie channels), FREE.
5mbps down/1mbps cable internet, 9.99 per month (from 44.99)
VoIP, 9.99 per month.

So, instead of me paying about 100 bucks a month for utilities when I go back to school, I'm paying...20 bucks. And the work itself is pretty fun. Not killer busy, just talkin' to people, helping them along.

I'm shocked at how GOOD this place is!

no, tech support would rule only if something like this happened on a daily basis:

Hot chick: This isn't working right.
You: Oh, just do this and this and this.
Hot chick: Wow, thanks! How did you do that? Wanna come over tonight and fvck?

$16.22/hr is in Canadian dollars? So in American dollars, it's like, what, a quarter? 😉

Glad you like your new job. give it some time, though. tech Support blows after awhile. You will cherish the calls from the complete morons just because you'll get to tell the story to your friends and co-workers.

I'm tech support too and am loving my job..... other then for this week and the next. I have to turn 3500 service requests into 500 solutions that have to be published before our new product is released.

Making 16$/hr right now 24/hr over time. 40 hours a week guaranteed. I should be getting a raise once my boss gets back.

Fixed it for you. 😛

A little forward I received:

Computer Repairman

I was having trouble with my computer. So I called Harold, the computer guy, to come over. Harold clicked a couple of buttons and solved the problem. He gave me a bill for a minimum service call.

As he was walking away, I called after him, "So, what was wrong?"

He replied, "It was an ID ten T error."

I didn't want to appear stupid, but nonetheless inquired, "An, ID ten T error?

What's that, in case I need to fix it again?"

The computer guy grinned.... "Haven't you ever heard of an ID ten T error before?"

"No," I replied.

"Write it down," he said, "and I think you'll figure it out."

So I wrote out

I D 1 0 T

I used to like Harold...

when you initially take a call, put on an accent. when they inevitably ask for an "american", put them on hold and then come back with your regular accent. they'll be more receptive to the solutions you spew.

Actually, the OP is in Canada... and people here aren't as jingoistic as the Americans...

In a year, don't come back here crying your eyes out about how much you hate your job. Tech support will wear on your nerves after awhile. The benefits need to be super great in order for the job to be tolerable, and while those benefits are nice, they probably aren't enough to keep you sane for long 😛

all those perks for a job anyone with half a brain can do and you havent wondered why there isnt a line of people trying to get that job?

things that make you go hmmmm

That's completely untrue. Americans are the least jingoistic of any country in the history of the planet and I'm not surprised to see it was a moronic Canadian, probably on a 14.4k dialup living in an igloo, who would say something like that.

😛 <- just in case it wasn't obvious enough.

Thoes are great benefits.

Though nothing will ever make tech support a tolerable job, except mabey lots of marijuana and booze.
