Got an e-mail stating that Yahoo is going to start charging $34.95 a year for a domain effective July 1, 2008.. Seeing as how I'm paying like $9 now, that's a fucking ripoff. I'm guessing I'm transferring it to godaddy. :disgust:

Remember, this is a country where you can sell millions of "Kinoki" foot pads to cleanse your demons.

Selling $34.99 domain names on a high-traffic web portal isn't a stretch.

They're thinking "hey, we have an idea. There's millions of ignorant suckers out there, we must find a way to get more money out of them. What about a huge markup on domain registrations? Most of them are too stupid to realize they're getting ripped off and will happily pay. Brilliant!"

Because the price seems too unbelievable, can you please paste the email you received?

They have to raise prices because the cost of gas is going up. You don't expect them to absorb it, do you? Domain services are a very fuel-intensive industry.

Most professional level services charge around that amount. Maybe they want to cater to that crowd.

I had Yahoo for a domain many years ago. It took a TON of searching to find any semblance of customer support to cancel my account. I will never give Yahoo a penny of my money again.

Billing center says 12.95 for my next payment on July 1, but mine just so happens to expire June 30.. so I'm not sure which charge I'd get hit up with if I stay.

Yup, just the registrar. I got in when it was like $3 or something, then they upped prices to $9, then it seems $12 for the next renewal if they don't charge me the $35.
