Alright guys, I'm glad to say that after my rough time in SM (Link Located Here), I can now run through all the instances really really well. I've aquired all the great gear from there thanks for some of you. They are:

Illusionary Rod

Whitemane's Chapeua

Beguiler's Robes

I've even hit level 40, got my mount and Shadowform. I'm a true nightmare now.

So, anyways. What is my next step? What instance should I hit? What gear should I go for, for a caster? I plan on staying spec'd as a Shadow Priest until level 60, where I will respect as Holy for Raids. :)

Maraudon is really not worth attempting until mid to high 40's. RFD is ok, but you won't run it repeatedly like SM since there are only a couple of items worth having. Uldaman is ok, nothing too spectacular. Basically, until you can do Zul Farrak and Maraudon, most of your time is probably best spent questing as a shadow spec, with occasional runs through the above.

Sunken Temple is a cool instance, I seem to recall a quest there gave me a really nice hat (I was a priest as well) and that is a 40's dungeon.

Back when I was in my mid 40's I found Uldaman very satisfying, even though a lot of people hate it. Decent way to get xp. Uldaman from 42-46, Zul Farrak from 46-48, and Maraudon from 48-52 and you'll be set. All decent instances and easy to get a group for especially if you're a priest.

I would definitely do Razorfen Downs next (RFD is the common abbreviation) It has a decent neck reward for a priest as I recall. It's also one of the first instances with common 5+ pulls. It is a challenge in that aggro must be handled a bit differently from almost all past instances.

I found Uldaman quite frustrating in that it has the first linked mobs of non-elites. You think you have a single pull and you get like 8 non-elites + 2 elites or something like that. Inexperienced players tend to freak out and die... a LOT. The final boss of Uldaman is one of the tougher for equal level characters and if you don't have someone with experience of the encounter you will probably have to try a couple times before you get it right. I did a lot of corpse runs in Uldaman with pick-up groups (PUGs) and never completed the instance with a PUG. I'm about high enough with my warrior to try it, and think as warrior I could manage to do it with a decent PUG, but I won't have to as we have a group of guild members at that level.

I would put Zul Farrak next on the list, then Maraudon then Sunken Temple. My priest got some nice stuff in Sunken Temple as I recall.

lvl 40-50 were rough on my priest. They just.. kinda seemed slow.

As far as instancing and good levels to attempt them? (the level, higher is better for farming, but to attempt..)

RFD 40
ZF 47
Mara 50 (for princess, i didn't find anything else in mara worth getting)
Sunken Temple 52
BRD 55-57 (depending on the rest of your group)
Scholo/Strat/BRS 58 is usually fine.
DM e 56
DM w / N / tribute 60

Uldaman is a pretty rough instance, and unless your an enchanter, probally has nothing worth while. Even RFD has very few desirable things.
i spent most of 40-60 just grindinggrindinggrinding. Mara has a nice head, eye, and even dagger. And then everything after there is just wonderful amounts of gear.

I wear the Cheif Architecht's Monocle over my Halo of Transcendence cause i like it that much ;) I even considered slapping the 150mana libram on that instead of the halo. Had i known about 1.7 ZG loots, i probally would have :(

As a priest you'll be more desireable to groups if your holy spec'd now. Its damn hard to find a healer for instances on my server (deathwing).

I've honestly just been grinding out my levels recently.

I wouldn't go to ST until you hit at least 50. Boss in there can be a b!tch to take down.

Honestly, I don't think it makes a huge difference. As you say, healers are tough to come by, people are happy with what they get. Even though I have significant points in holy tree, I have never had anyone ask me what spec I was when I grouped with them, and I've been through Scholo and other level 60 instances.

Grouping is less about spec than player experience with what skills are best used in the different types of situations you are presented with. The game is pretty balanced (easy?) in the non-raid portion of the game as not really needing any specific talent point specs.

With full shadow spec your healing is more than adequate, don't consider respeccing until 60 ( In general terms, with full shadow your healing is an 8, and your damage is an 8 - switch to holy and you get healing 9, damage 2 - i.e. soloing takes 4x as long ). As you have probably already noticed though, groups will tend to take a dim view of you using shadowform and nuking things.

There's also a good group elite outdoor area called Jintha'Alor in the hinterlands which has some excellent quest rewards ( for horde at least, I am not sure what alliance gets - do they start neutral to revantusk trolls also ? )

That's as bad a misconception as Rent made in the holy priest grouping argument. I soloed with a holy priest and a shadow priest. It's not even a factor of two difference let alone 4. Yes, it takes longer holy, but not that much longer. Unless you don't take spirit tap, which would be soloing suicide (or require a lot of drink purchases). It's just as holy you rely more on your wand or staff damage (generally wand) instead of spell damage. Wand + DOT damage is well over half of what you do as full shadow.

alliance or horde?

for alliance, at least, I'd say your next instances are Uldaman, Zul'Farrak, and Mauradon (in that order).

between instances, Tanaris and Feralas have great low-mid 40's quests.

I suspect your comparison may be of very low level characters. With +10% shadow talent, shadow form, shadow weaving and +shadow gear, shadow word pain does more than a holy priest's sw:p and his wand *by itself*. On top of that is added staggering damage from mindflay. I'll stick a log comparison in when I get home so you can compare yourself.

disc owns holy and shadow anyway :p no need to compare ;)

15 sec cooldown on PWS is the single best talent for the priest. No joke.

Unless you consider level 55 'low level' I don't think I am comparing very low level characters. You're simply way off base with your 4x comment.

You *can* do damge faster, but overall killing rate is also dependent on mana regen. And it's not like a holy or disc preist pulls with a wand. MB or MB+ Smite frontloads significant damage as well.

I urge you to try it out before making rash comments.

I provide below two logs. The first is using mindblast, sw:p and wand to kill a mob in caster form. This takes 40 seconds, but the character in question still has +10% to shadow damage, 2 extra ticks of SW:p and a decent chunk of extra damage from shadow weaving and +140 shadow damage. ( I was going to do a respecced comparison from test but the char copy was down ) The second log is using mindblast, sw:p, then mindflay to kill an identical mob - time taken 13 seconds.

I know you might *think* that wanding is comparable to mindflay, but consider than even the level 44 mindflay does 155 damage a second, and a good wand at level 50 does 40.

For mobs that can heal, the lack of silence throws the comparison even further out of line.

I have also, for amusement's sake, included as the third log, killing a +2 level elite, using no potions or external buffs. For that kind of situation the difference is not between 13 seconds and 40 seconds, but more the difference between easily done and not a chance in hell.
