Seems he is pretty pissed over the shenanigans they pulled at Wellstone's memorial service and is thinking of nominating an Independent for the race in Wellstone's place instead of Mondale. Per Fox News.

Thats bull. The Democrats loved it. The busloads of union workers they shipped in did their job, and it was on the primary reasons that the VP didnt attend.

I was trying to find something to watch last night, and the damn thing was on every channel here. So I ended up watching a few minutes of the service, and it made me sick.

I only saw a few minutes of the beginning, and it was completely a political event. They were parading in politicians and the crowd was cheering. If it was just supposed to be a happy remembrance memorial, I'd have thought nothing about it. But the fact that big name policitians were being slowly paraded into their seats.

Ugh. Too bad a plane with all politicians on it couldn't go down.

Wellstone's family seems to think this is all OK, including and especially asking Mondale to step in. What else would you expect when something like this pops up one week before an election, and what's your beef with it? :p

Does the governor have that kind of power in MN?

That wasn't a memorial that I saw last night,it was a political rally. Yet another new low for that party.

The Governor has the power to appoint a homeless drunk (and probably would!) to the Senate in the event of a death. That person will serve out Wellstones term and up until the election is certified. (Usually 2 weeks after election day, but who knows how many damn court cases are going to disrupt this processes.)

"Gov. Jesse Ventura said today he walked out in the middle of U.S. Sen. Paul Wellstone?s memorial service Tuesday night when he felt the content became blatantly political, which he said reduced his wife, Terry Ventura, to tears."

"He also told radio interviewers this morning that his disgust with that part of the memorial service may deter him from appointing a Democrat to fill out the remainder of Wellstone?s term"

Actually from what I read V.P. Cheney was asked not to attend by Wellstone's family.

Yes, do you know why?
Because then they could not ship in the union workers.
Each one would have to be screened by the Secret Service had the VP attended.

BTW, you need to listen closer to the news. Ventura is thinking about appointing a temporary senator to take Wellstone's seat until the new senator is elected. Ventura can't strike down the DFL's request to put Mondale on the ballot.

PSYWVic,
Now I understand you're comment, fully. No, the Governor does not have the power to nominate and place an Independent candidate on the DFL ballot.

If Wellstone's family didn't have a problem with it, then I don't have a problem with it.

The problem I do have though is when the audience started booing all the republicans that were shown. That is totally uncalled for and inappropriate at a memormial service.

Typical. It's funny how up until that minute, the Dems kept yelling to the press anytime somebody bought up Mondale's record "At least wait until they bury him..wahhh, wahhhh, yada yada" They accused the Republicans of no sensitivity to the subject (lol...every Repub on record was broken up about it and judging by the party the Dems had last night..it looks they were a bit sadder than the Dems too.) and wouldn't let the Repubs discuss anything about the election without a bunch of panty ringing. And then they go and have a political rally, at the guys memorial. I am not saying that they shouldn't discuss what was near and dear to this guy's heart..that would be appropriate. But what they did went way over board..kind of suprised Barbra Streisand wasn't there as well. It was sickening and obviously you didn't watch it or you would have felt the same way. If not....then you must be brain dead. It was pathetic...yet typical.

From the sound clips I heard on the radio, it definitely sounded like a political rally. The democrats are shameless. I wonder how quickly they were on the phone planning this rally after Wellstone's death was confirmed.

Looks like we are headed back to court...

Legal Battles Brewing Over Minn Senate Seat

...Under the state's current plan, people who have already mailed in their ballots and want to change their vote will have to go to a local election office and get a new ballot, something Democrats argue is not possible for many absentee voters...

..."It's not the way we're supposed to be doing things in Minnesota. We don't want to be another Florida," said state Democratic Party attorney Alan Weinblatt...

...The lawsuit seeks a court order allowing voters to have a new absentee ballot mailed to them promptly if they want to make a change...

...Democrats would prefer that absentee votes for Wellstone be automatically transferred to Mondale, contradicting the plan created by Kiffmeyer, a Republican, and Attorney General Mike Hatch, a Democrat...

..."We can't assume that just because Paul Wellstone's name is here now that [voters] automatically want to transfer to whoever the new nominee is. We can't assume that. We can't read those minds," Kiffmeyer said...

...To accommodate the Mondale substitution at the polls a special supplemental ballot will be handed out covering just the U.S. Senate race.

Weinblatt adds that the extra ballot is confusing.

"Because of the shortness of time, and because of the confusion that has developed over the weekend, I am asking that ballot instructions be put on the ballot in English, in Spanish, in Hmong and in Russian," Weinblatt said...
I have to agree with the Secretary of State's position on the ballots.
