First the destruction in the south now 2000 buildings leveled and at least 89 dead after tornado strikes Joplin, MO last night. Not a good year to live anywhere tornados are prevalent. Says about a quarter of the buildings in a town of 50,000 people are destroyed or suffered major damage. That's a lot of damage. And the lives lost! :'(

Yeah, this tornado shit is getting crazy. We live in Kentucky near Louisville and went through a period a couple weeks ago where we were getting a bunch of warnings, nothing near us, but still had warnings. It has turned my 7 year old into a nervous wreck now. I guess they did tornado drills in class and it freaked him out. Every night he makes us turn the weather on so he can read the full forecast. If it rains or storms he starts freaking out. He made us take him home from soccer practice because he freaked out when it started getting a bit windy. I hope this ends up being a phase that he goes through and gets over....

Damn, this is probably shaping up to be a record year. Glad I was flying above the last major storm system that nailed AL, TN and MS. Bumpy ride, but better than being below, my car did not do so well in the softball sized hail...

My condolences to those who lost loved ones, thoughts and prayers to those suffering due to this outbreak.

Listened to several reports of this on the way in to work this morning, sounds terrible. Hospital got trashed.

When I was a child a tornado struck our school. We were all instructed to take shelter under the concrete ledges outside of our rooms that had been built to withstand tornados - of course the ledges all collapsed on top of us. My mother was driving my sister to school and the tornado picked up the car in front of them and twirled it away. We never knew what happened to it. Not... fun... memories. I would not wish that kind of experience on anyone. :(

LOL

"You could have probably dropped a nuclear bomb on the town and I don't think it would have done near as much damage as it did."

I wonder how many people thought it was the start of the Rapture

I was flipping channels the other day and saw that it was on. Couldve dvr'd it and used it as a punishment down the road. "Eat your dinner, or watch Twister and know that this WILL happen to you soon!"

Ketchum, OK - taken by a friend. This tornado popped down about 100yds away from my uncle at his friends house, sucked up a bunch of water from grand lake and tore a bunch of boat docks away from the shore
