Athlon X3 2.7ghz with the 4th core unlocked...so essentially quad core

Nice!

I'm afraid Wreckage is right your choices are rather slim.

There are no 4850's on Newegg and if you can find one they are overpriced.
hd4770 for 99$ is good (at newegg) but is slower then the gts250 linked above.
9800gt's seem to be around 90$ and are slower then the 4770
4670's just don't have enough performance but are cheap.
5700 series are way to much money.

Unless you up your budget and grab a gts250 for 99$ your screwed.:D

One question. What video card do you have now?

I hate rebates. Spend the extra 10$ and get this better quality gts250 for 109$ That Galaxy gts 250 don't seem worth it as per the reviews.

I will just say that either a 9800GT or a GTS250 should be your options for gaming. I'd steer clear from those GT240s as I made pretty clear, I think ;) You won't get anything reasonable for 70$ or less I'm afraid. You will need to stretch your budget a bit more, especially if your monitor is running at 1680x1050 and this is your target resolution.

Edit - that GTS250 you linked, happy medium... I thought every GTS250 uses only one PCIe power plug? The comment there sems to suggest otherwise... And the card is advertised as a lower power usage one... Strange.

So just to recap:
90$ - 9800GT or HD4830
100$-ish - GTS250 or HD4770 (the Radeon is slower though)

There was a 9800gtx+ that used 2 pci-e connectors. I remember reading somewhere that some munufacturers where still using that same Pcb board for the gts250.

The guy in the review also says the card is highly overclockable.
Who knows?
My 9800gtx+ only had 1 connector.

4670's average around $65 and this card is faster. Although for a little more than that 240 you can get a GTS250 which is a bit faster than a HD4850.

its super easy to find a 4670 for ~$45-55 after rebate, the 240 needs to be closer to $79.99 MSRP and needs to be found for $50-60 after rebate

@ ~$100 without any sort of deal its a pretty terrible option all around

gt240 is a decent card but it is priced too high. Like BF said, it should be around an $80 msrp. It is only a good deal at $50 or less.

I think that the current cards to consider (in your price range) are the 4770 and the gts250. Keep an eye on the hot deals forum here or at slickdeals. I picked up a Galaxy GTS250 which will be under $40 after rebate.
