NEW YORK (AP) - A man stabbed a woman at a (so and so) university campus Sunday before barricading himself in an office at the campus library and shooting himself in the head, police said.
The incident happened just after 4 p.m. at the (so and so) campus of (so and so) University, said Sgt. Jim Foley.
The 25-year-old woman, who is enrolled at the college, was stabbed twice in the chest, said university spokesman Stuart Dim. She was taken to (so and so) Medical Center where she is listed in critical condition, police said. No name was released.
The man, who was also not immediately identified, was a teaching assistant, Dim said. He said the two had a personal relationship.
Dim said the woman was attacked on the lower level of the library, located at (so and so) Center. ``She made her way up to the first floor lobby and told the guard that she was stabbed,'' he said.
The guard called 911, locked the entrances to the library and evacuated about 20 students who were in the building, Dim said. Police searched the building for the suspect, who had barricaded himself in an office of the library. He then shot himself with a semiautomatic gun, police said.
(so and so) University instructs students in science and engineering. There are over 3,000 students at the (so and so) campus.
