I've got a Seagate Barracuda 20gig ATA100 drive that just started corrupting data and I just checked it's warranty status. The warranty runs out in 1 week! 😀

If this problem had occured just 9 days later, I'd be out of luck!

You can usually convince a company to service your product if the warranty ran out less than a month ago.

i love maxtor's drives...

I've only actually had one other drive die under warranty, a IBM 75GXP 45 gig. They sent me a 60GXP 60gig in exchange. Still running strong...

Hopefully Seagate's process is painless as I ran their utility and it shows nothing wrong with the drive. I've formatted and reinstall Redhat 8 two times and each time I start getting CRC errors after a while.

Under the 3yr warranty I've RMA'd maybe 10 drives (a few not mine). Many times I've already upgraded and don't need immediate replacement, so, I just RMA'd it for a spare. A few times I did the cross ship.

W/ the 1yr warranty I don't think I'll be so lucky. I can't recall ever having a drive fail in the first year... that wasn't in the first 30days. Thus, the 1yr warranty sucks.

And I'd knock every day...............I had 4 RMAs on Deathstars within 1 1/2 years.........sold the last RMA'd drive just to get out from under the IBM cloud.
