Wow - this forum has been here a long long time!

I just realized my forum has been around since before 2003. It's been completely turned off for over a year though, all it was getting is spammers and it kept getting hacked. Working on converting it to a new system with a better registration system to try to counter the spammers.

Forums don't make much money though, it's mostly all repeat users, and most people use adblock now. The only way to make money through advertising now days is to have your own ad system that uses non standard image sizes and does not use any kind of ad server but is locally hosted, so that it just looks like an image that's part of the site, then programs like adblock should not block them. The people who use annoying crap like flash ads and popups ruined it for everybody else.

I actually got a google cheque for 100 bucks the other day, probably the first time in a year that I get one. There's always the odd person that may have forgotten to install adblock after reformatting or something.

Didn't expect to see Anandtech so high up there. :hmm:

GoGaia still blows my mind. I made an account there back in 2003 when it apparently started, and even then it was infamous for its high level of activity. I didn't even realize they were supposed to be an anime-themed board, I thought it was just some weird teen community thing with little dress-able paperdoll avatars.

Happy 10 years? 😛

Some people don't use adblock. Websites I like I turn off adblock for unless they have annoying ads. Sometimes I end up turning it on for anandtech because the ads can get out of hand. For a ad provider like google that is so uptight about who can use it's ads they don't monitor what they do very well.

Anand had a crash in '99 that made us re-register. I started here in 1997. I miss the 1999-2005 Anandtech.....

I wistfully miss those days of a young and evolving Internet especially. I probably visit here now more out of habit than anything.

Yes, yes it was...

Triumph, you might have re-registered the same day I did. Your ID is only 127 after mine......

I even remember where I was and what I was doing that day. it was nothing interesting, but i remember it. visiting my friend's apartment for the weekend, woke up at like 9 am, checked AT and remembered i had to re-register. i was bummed that i lost my previous post count.
