Story:

At a gas station and convenience store in Danville, W.V., a driver fell asleep at the wheel and his car went out of control, causing an explosion at a gas pump. No one was seriously hurt.

"It's a miracle of God, a miracle of God," store manager Vamshi Kesari said. "It could have been a massacre."

Wouldn't it only be a "massacre" if the driver woke up enraged and started machine-gunning the place?

Rumble strips (from the article) are a great improvement, but while they certainly prevent crashes, drowsy drivers need to realize that hitting the rumble strip means that they almost crashed, and it's time to pull over and sleep!

It's amusing, in a way. Life spans are nearly 3x what they were a thousand years ago. We have technological advances to allow us (in theory) even more free time, and yet it seems that we continue to devote less and less time to sleep. We're "impatienting" ourselves to death.

The only thing I really get impatient about is a computer. It's got response time in the nanosecond range, or milliseconds at the worst. I expect it to be reasonably snappy. :)
