I took a turn out of work rather quick in first gear and all of a sudden my car is grinding when turning (in N or in gear) ... and when I am accelerating lightly it grinds lightly, when I accelerate heavily it grinds heavily...I can feel it in the car, but I have NO idea what it is! sounds like a tranny? but why would it when I turn in N and not giving it gas /... just coasting?

Have you checked the power steering fluid yet? It will make a kind of grinding/whining noise when low.

crazy guess ggnl...that would make sense for when I am turning it, but it doesn't make sense why the sound comes when I am going straight and accelerating.

It is a little below the MAX line so it's perfect. I also flushed the power steering fluid line to make sure that it has the dealership required fluid in there. So no, the fluid is at perfect level.

you know, id be happy if it was that man! -- was cringing it may be a tranny :|

I will have my friend who works at the dealership check it out. Am I okay driving it like this ? So far I have done 100 miles like this....all is well, just babying it!

EDIT : If it's the CV joint...why do I hear it when I am accelerating? I thought it was only when turning you would generally hear it.... maybe its an axle?

normal wear on CV Joints makes it so you hear it when turning. this would probably be abnormal wear/breakage, and won't always follow common symptoms. CV Joint or wheel bearing is my guess too.

I wouldn't drive it too much. Too much risk of total breakage/stranded. Also, it could cause additional problems if you put too many miles on it.

I have driven around with a worn CV joint and bearing before. I drove it for about 7k miles before I decided to get it fixed.
