They both use dynamic lighting, but I don't think it's technically HDR (and the implementation is definitely different than what Crytek uses on the 6800, since that's using NV40-specific extensions).

Interesting, but a killer performance hit... 70%?!

It also sounds in the article like PS2.0b gives ATI a similar performance boost to PS3.0 for NVIDIA, but they didn't show any numbers for it. Perhaps AT or HardOCP or someone will put out a more thorough article in the next couple days.
 
That looks really good but...

it just looks like the lighting that was already there is just brighter/ different color.

Is that all its doing? Couldn't you just program the brighter/ different color lighting into the game in the first place?
