Wow, the other OS makers seem to be learning from MS... huge security bugs found in both OSX and Linux

From the same Slashdot article you linked:

<< Kernel 2.4.12 fixes this problem >>

So the bug was fixed before it was even discovered.

How often do you see that with IIS, Outlook, Windows, or whatever else Microsoft makes?

Ha!

That's not the issue here greenfirs, the issue is whether or not the Systems Administrators that are running the old kernel have it patched. I don't give a damn about Microsoft or Red Hat or Apple's security holes, they're always gonna be there. I'm more concerned about the fact that these holes exist and who's doing what to patch them up all over the world.

Don't be stupid. You cannot compare these issues.

The Linux hole is certainly a problem, and has been addressed, but it is NOT a remote root exploit. In order for someone to take advantage of it, they must already have an account/shell on the machine. The Windows/IIS problems you hear about every month are normally remotely exploitable holes, which is 100x worse.

Yes it did. Basic v2.0. It was rom based so no need to boot up a disk. Just turn it on and there you go. I actually still use my c128 once and a while. I kind of miss the good old days. No viruses to worry about either.

Yup the good ol'e days, the first 2 virus' i got were on my first x86 computer, the intel 8086 XT 10MHz

First was the Marijuana virus, simply a harmless message in good humour that resides on the boot sector, after the POST screen the computer would come up with a message "Your computer is now stoned!" and it would continue booting and functioning normally.

The second one was the Ping Pong virus, the computer would, at a predefined time, in 80x25 res, it would bounce an ASCII dot around the screen. Yeah funny :)
