Wow...the Nvidia GTX260m is quite a little beast!

Well, just got a new laptop today, the Asus G72GX...upgrading from a Gateway P-7811FX (sold it for $700...bought the Asus for $800 NICE!) and WOW I gotta say this GTX260m is quite powerful all things considered. Going from the 9800m GTS I would expect a bit of a boost with the GTX260m, but holy hell, it blows the 9800m out of the water!

Playing Just Cause 2 at all settings maxed (no AA, medium shadows) at 1600x900 and this thing does it not sweat even with CUDA effects on.

I dont know, just had to get that out, extremely impressed with Nvidia (being mostly a ATi user mosts my life)...I can see this chip lasting a while for sure!

The GTX 260M uses a cut down G92b GPU with 112 cores and GDDR3, making it basically an underclocked 9800 GT.

The 9800M GTS has 64 cores, making it around an underclocked 9600 GT performance. I don't know whether it uses a G94 or super-cut-down G92 variant.

You got a hell of an upgrade for $100. I'd hit it!

Indeed, If I was going to buy a notebook right now I would def get one with a 260m (for 360m, which is the same thing) without a doubt.

Hmm, while we're on the topic, what should I expect out of my incoming HD 5830? I'm hoping HD 4770ish performance, but expecting more like HD 4670.

I would place the 5830 around the 4770 myself...sure the 5830 has 800 unified shader pipelines, but with only a 128-bit bus and no DDR5 support (DDR/GDDR3 only) it might be more along the lines of a 4830 perhaps?

Whats a Nvidia GeForce GT 230M equal to then??

It has 48 cores and is DX 10.1, so it is basically equivalent to a desktop GT 220. Be aware that it is available with DDR2, DDR3 and GDDR3, and that there can be a pretty big spread in performance depending on the RAM used and what they are clocked to.

Wow...this thing never ceases to impress! Been playing Crysis at 1600x900 with a lot of high settings (some medium like shadows and what not)...looks indistiguishable to maxed settings and its smooth as silk! Have it overclocked to stock speeds (the Asus G72GX has everything lower) and the CPU overclocked to 2.9ghz (Intel P8700) and I havent had any slow down, even during heavy ass fire fights!

Also, Batman: AA runs smooth at max res. no AA with highest Physx quite well too...

Never would have thought gaming on a laptop could be this awesome! Might just sell my desktop...

It's not bad, but it's not great either. I've had a couple GTX 260Ms.

Well, for Mobile graphics, you don't get too many options unfortunately.

Oh for sure...I mean, you see what I have in my main rig, so I KNOW what fast is...but damn, for a LAPTOP, the GTX260m is QUITE impressive!

Nice upgrade! I've got an old Gateway P171X-FX (think it's the same thing only mine was a slower clocked 8800m gts...
Just ordered a clevo W870CU w/ 5870m so I can't wait a nice performance increase!
