WOW. The new iMac's do not have a DVD drive after all

Smartphone or Android-based player (like the one Samsung makes).

Rip your CD player out and wire up your own line-in jack. This will take you less time than it takes to build and burn the 15 discs you claim to have burned "this week."

it takes ~3 min to burn a CD, 15 of them in 3 weeks is under an hour, it would take longer to rup out my headunit, and cost a lot more,

samsungs player has a crap amount of space, even if i converted everything to MP3 im still looking at like 180 GB of needed storage.
if im going to be rotating data on and off a media device i might as well rotate CDs, considering i can burn like 1000 of them for the price of a mp3 player

iMac was the first computer to drop floppy drive in 1998, by the time the floppies were still regularly sold till 2008. So I'm not really surprised they did this, the portable flash drives, memory cards, and virtually any music player, phone, camera and so on can act as a large portable storage, so I believe that optical media will become obsolete by the mid 2010s

Samsung's player doesn't do microSD?

Seriously? People still do this? Huh. Well, I guess my dad still burns photos to DVD to distribute to the family, so ok.

I think you are right though, that the larger issue is to push people to the App Store. Though my understanding is that the money Apple gets from their cut is primarily used to just run the store, the servers, the payment processing, all that. Kind of like how they don't make a ton of money off of music on the iTS.

I still burn CDs for my car too. I cannot change songs on my iPhone without looking at it like I can with my car's CD player.

Physical buttons >> Touchscreen when driving.

Why would Apple want you to have a DVD drive? They make more money when you download apps from their App Store!

...and the walls on Apple's walled garden get a bit taller for everyone else.

wha? mine has USB. I use 120gig drive. You need to update to 2010.😉

Steering Wheel buttons/talk >> physical buttons on HU when driving.

I don't totally agree here. Windows Phone tops the iPhone (not sure about Android) in this regard, the unlock is a vertical swipe anywhere on the screen, and next/previous are horizontal swipes anywhere on the screen within the media player.

However, as a general rule, buttons > touchscreen in this regard, yes.

lol, i ditched a car stereo years ago... for a windows pc directly run to amps....

but now im ditching computers for android tablets. why? low power, and software is always being updated and always changing. no flac support? download a different app.

Lots of options. Bluetooth A2DP can play/pause or change tracks. It can also trigger voice control and answer / end calls.

It get this thing for a few bucks at your local Big Lots store:

The button works exactly like the Apple headset button. Answer/end, play/pause, next track, rewind, fast-forward, etc.

Pages 2 and 3 list all the functions you can do with a single button:

I still agree with the move to remove the optical drive. It is not a mainstream necessity anymore so why keep including it into products? Get rid of the legacy stuff and move onto the new and more important issues.

it might, but the largest SD card IIRC is 128 and many not even be supported, i know phones didn't support over 32 or 64 last i checked. it also does not get around the rotating media issue and is an additional 150$ on top of the mp3 player.

also touch screens suck unless they have some sort of skipping function you can use without looking at it, and this isn't just for in the car. phones have this issue as well, luckily you can rom most android phones to get long press on volume to skip to the next track, which you can do without looking it the device

Almost all of them support control functions through the headphone jack. ALL OF THEM support control functions through A2DP Bluetooth. Smartphones can stream your library from the cloud or from your home computer with nearly-unlimited storage.

Seriously. A smartphone with a data plan and some affordable accessories is everything you should ever need in the car.

sounds like a good idea seeing as as i use 6GB a month without streaming anything in the car 🙄

also i have yet to see an android phone or device period that supports controls through the headphone jack

Oh my god guys, seriously. The system the guy has in place works for him, and any other option costs more money than what a stack of 100 blank CDs cost. This is probably one of the few times that Anubis and I are going to see eye to eye on something regarding music management.

I dare ya to go to the caraudio.com forums and make a thread stating that. I would tell ya to go to soundomain's forums instead but that's too cruel. The mods there are jerks and would get you banned by editing your post when you say that kind of stuff.
