Wow...that sucks

So a friend of mine had precancerous cells removed last July. She had a test in November to make sure they were successfully removed. They were supposed to call her if the test found anything. They never called. Today she called the office about getting a non-related prescription refilled, and the nurse questioned her about if she'd seen the doctor since November...naturally she hadn't. Apparently the tests turned up positive and they were supposed to set up another appointment for further examination/possibly more surgery, and never did. Now that 6 months have passed without treatment, her condition could have gotten worse.

That sucks....

She said if the new test now turns up actual cancer cells(as opposed to the precancerous cells from before) she will sue.

My friends wife got misdiagnosed they thought something minor was wrong with it, well 1 year later....... that something minor turned out to be hepititus and she had to have a liver transplant.

Don't you just love worthless medical staffs who do nothing all day but post on forums or chat on the phone?

She should have called if she was concerned about her health.

Considering they said "we'll call you if its a positive test", don't you think its pretty safe that if they don't call, its negative? This is a doctors office...they should be reliable about that kind of thing.

My girlfriend's dad had botched back surgery. They never told him that it went bad and he aggravated it worse, now 7 surgeries later after dying on the table twice there is nothing they can do and the doctor who fvcked the first surgery is dead. Nothing they can do and he's pretty much screwed.

Medical malpractice is one of the worst things that can happen to someone.

If I were in her position, a lawyer would definitely be on my list of phone calls to make. That said, I would not have ever assumed that just because I didn't hear from them there was no problem.

Seriously, why would you not call if there is a chance you have cancer? In my experience they call regardless of how good the news is. She does have reason to be angry and maybe more, but I wouldn't put my life in the hands of a receptionist.

maybe she should have to be safe, but you can hardly say this is her own fault.

If she was truly concerned, she should have called them herself. It seems like she should have been at least a little curious to the results after getting on an operating table and having precancerous cells removed. Her health is her responsibilty too.

Yes, they definitely fvcked up big-time, but so did she. She can't pass away all the blame.

They fvcked up but I would have called.

I've never had a doctor/ staff say "we'll call you if it is positive" but always "we'll call you with the resuts".

Hell no. You call either way... it's your health. not a good thing to make assuptions with. Both parties are at fault. One for making a clerical error and the other for being lax about her own welfare.

It's cancer for christ's sake, you don't just let it drop. Phonecalls get missed all the time in every field. Instead of trying to get rich from a lawsuit, etc, your friend should work on being more assertive with her health/life in general.

Hell when I had a test for something not even life threatening I called to hear the result, then got the doctor on the phone and talked to him about it, making sure all is well.

Don't give her any reason to blame herself, though it would have been a good idea to call. I hope she is fine.
