I'm reading through this ad in PC Mag expectin some Ultra Extremem or X800XTPE beast and all of a sudden, I see some vanilla 6600 bs. For $2800, on a P4EE 3.4, that's like...complete reverse bottleneck. The ad says: "Your Game Starts Here. Activate your real-world gaming experience with the ABS Ultimate X6 featuring the Intel Pentium 4 Processor with HT Technology Extreme Edition." 1000 bucks on the CPU, 150 on the vid card. Jeez.

The public at large seems to be ignorant to the fact that video cards influence 3d gaming performace way more than the processor. And on another note, do 256 meg 6600s even exist?

Well at least people like Alienware and Voodoo and Velocity Micro know what they're doing. For 4000 bucks you at least get two 6800GTs in SLI. Otherwise it isn't labeled "gaming comp." If people are going to be selling comps like that at least label it right.

Hell, I like going on to Best Buy's website to laugh at crap like that...they had a "Gamer's Dream" with Doom3 bundle not long ago that had a 5200XT in it (crappier than a 5200, how you do that, I don't know)...yeah, really good idea recommending cards that could barely pump 20 frames at lowest settings as a "Dream."

It's better than a X300, but it's no hard core gaming card. ABS is pretty good, you can customize it and upgrde. They want to peak your interest without sticker shock.

Proc: AMD has better benchmarks with FX's than the P4EE in gaming.
RAM: Don't pentiums work better with dual channel RAM?
PSU: Is 550w necessary?
HD: I read an article that RAID doesn't help in gaming, and in some benchmarks actually slowed things down.
Video Card: I think enough has been said about that.

For $1800 I got a better, REAL gaming machine from Alienware(rig#2 below).
