Most places honor the warranty if the RMA is issued before the end of the warranty... But that was still pretty close.

I'm fighting Maxtor right now for a drive that the online warranty says one thing, but the label is many months later... :D

Hope you get the result you want... but most of all I hope people do backups... that would suck more than not being able to get a new drive under warranty.

I was lucky, my drive was still functional and I was able to get everything off of it. It was just starting. There were a few "spots" on the disk that it couldn't read, so it would do the clicky clicky thing if I tried to access those files. I finally had to RMA the drive when a bad "spot" popped up under a windows file, and windows wouldn't load anymore.
