The returned defective hard disk drive was received and the replacement hard disk drive has not been shipped yet.

RMA issued on September 09, 2003

Defective hard disk drive received on September 27, 2003

The warranty ran out on the 29th.

Most places honor the warranty if the RMA is issued before the end of the warranty... But that was still pretty close.

I'm fighting Maxtor right now for a drive that the online warranty says one thing, but the label is many months later...

Hope you get the result you want... but most of all I hope people do backups... that would suck more than not being able to get a new drive under warranty.

I was lucky, my drive was still functional and I was able to get everything off of it. It was just starting. There were a few "spots" on the disk that it couldn't read, so it would do the clicky clicky thing if I tried to access those files. I finally had to RMA the drive when a bad "spot" popped up under a windows file, and windows wouldn't load anymore.
