Wow something I just discovered while procrastinating..

I'm sitting at my desk and for some reason I have a few 9V batteries lying around. I connect them + to - and - to + as you normally would do these in a real type of machine..and after a few seconds they both start to get warm. How cool (no pun intended) is that?

What would happen if I leave them connected for a long time?

You're forming a circuit, there's nowhere for the pwoer to go.

Same if you connect a wire to the - and the other end of the wire to the +

in real life, batteries are not ideal, meaning that there is a small resistance between the actual source and the terminal where you connect them. and what resistors do? disspate energy in the form of heat...
