Wow, SGS4 takes some amazing pictures... [PICS]

Just got me a brand spanking new Samsung Galaxy S4.

The pics are straight from camera. No retouching, stock quality:

I picked up a gs4 a couple weeks ago and I love it, the camera is outstanding in my opinion.

I took this a few days ago with it. I'm thoroughly enjoying my gs4 and I wish the same for you! 😀

i just got a sgs4 too. Haven't played with the camera yet though. I like that shallow DOF and sharpness. I think i'd probably end up messing with contrast and saturation

My SO complained constantly on our vacation that my SGS4 takes way better pics than her iPhone5 and even much better pics than her 1-year-old point-and-shoot.

With the latest iteration of smartphone cameras, point-and-shoots are pretty much obsolete, IMO. That's not to say that some of them aren't superior to the SGS4 camera and the like, but who wants to lug around an extra device when your average smartphone does this good of a job these days?

It might look good now, but after a few months when the lens is all smudged and scratched it probably won't. They need to have a little lens cover that you can put on if you want.

Nice pictures! My Nokia 920 also takes nice pictures as well. Always looks sharper when I compare to an Iphone and the SGS3.

wow those are some nice pics especially considering they came from a phone.

The biggest problem with mobile phones are low-light environments (which is the majority of the time- indoors, night, etc).

Sure they do take pretty pics on a perfect daylight like this. But low light indoor pics aren't as ideal and really show that 'phone' quality.

most phones take decent pictures outside during the day. the low light environment is the true test.

Tell that to my shitty Evo3D camera. Garbage green hues everywhere, disgustingly low dynamic range.

A perfectly fine cloudy afternoon:

Love the GS4's camera in general. I wish it was faster though. I usually end up holding the shoot button down and only letting go when I want to snap the shot.

Here are a couple pics from my Nokia 1020

Took these while at lunch at a restaurant called The Shed. Very poor lighting there and they still came out alright. These are the small files uploaded to SkyDrive not the full resolution pictures. I will have to wait until I get home to pull any Full Res images off but can upload them later if anyone would like to see them.

Not bad, leaps and bounds from my god-awful Evo 3D camera.

I'll try to test darker pics... like dimly lit restaurants or bars. Again, I just got this phone.

For darker still shots turn on the HDR mode, for stuff that is moving you'll get blur but for the ubiquitous food shots where nothing is moving it does great in low light.

It does take great pictures. Just got back from vacation/visiting family and for the first time ever I just used my phone for 90% of the family time/just hanging out pictures instead of pulling out the camera. It doesn't compare to a real camera but if you aren't going to print it or crop it too much it is excellent.

The only problem with cell phone cameras is the lack of a real optic zoom lens. But of course that's the place of DSLRs. Point and shoot is kind of in an awkward middle ground. Cheaper PAS are POS lol. Once you spend about $200ish, you get a much better camera even than the S4, just due to superior optics.

Convenience factor though, the S4 is the first phone I think that can reasonably do 90% of photo duties, and when you need more, it's worth heading all the way up to DSLR.

Lumia 1020, Lumia 920/925/928, iPhone 5, HTC One, GS4, are all good.

The new LG G2 should be really good, as well.

I bought an older but half decent point and shoot a while back just for some occasional better shots I wanted than my old phone would give me or for some simple video. Now I don't even use it for that as the SGS4 can record video in 1080p if I want 😱

Smudges are nothing, quite wipe before you use it as always, but what are you doing to your phone to get the lens all scratched up? It is an electronic device, take care of it like one and don't use it like a hammer 😛

The 1020 trounces every other smart phone out there when it comes to the camera. I haven't personally used a s4 but I have used the iPhone 5 (my wife's) My buds Note 2, and my old 920. I hear the 925 and 928 are a bit better than the 920 however I don't think any of them can really compete with the 1020.

That said the s4 pics I have seen on this thread are quite nice all the same.

I know.

I am trying to avoid hearing or reading any further information about the 1020, I've already been tempted to purchase one since it came out. I've been following the phone and it's predecessor (the 808 PureView) for a while.

The only thing stopping me from getting it is I already have an HTC One.

The GS4 is a great all around phone. It doesn't have the premium feel of the HTC One, but I'd rather have a removable plastic back with a user-replaceable battery and microSD card.

One feature that Samsung (and every phone manufacturer) should copy from HTC are the front-facing stereo speakers. But everything else is top notch on the GS4, from the 13MP camera to the 5" 1080p display.

'eh. It's hard to make any camera look bad on a very bright sunny day. The indoor and cloudy day shots are where the stink truly shines through and the SGS4 is like all the other camera phones. You just can't get around the physics of those little lenses gathering so little light.
