Wow... Samsung standard definition TVs look pretty good.

Just a surprising observation I made today while perusing a local Circuit City. There was a section with three flat screen TV's. A Sony Wega, Panasonic (guess Tau?) and a Samsung standard definition TV (as opposed to the HD's). I stood there comparing the three images and was fixated on the Samsung. Didn't know what it was about the image that made it stood out from the other two until one of the sales people came over and told me. It was at the same price as the Wega but no scan lines and better color! I then went over to compare a smaller model (think 27in) and the Samsung was cheaper than the Wega at that size =T.

Parents want a larger TV for the living room. I guess I know what I'll be leaning towards when it comes time to purchase. Too bad I didn't think to take down any model numbers...

Samsung televisions, like most of their other electronics, are extremely high quality.

I have a Samsung television (standard), cellphone, DVD player, and laptop. And I have been highly pleased with every single one of them. They have been the most trouble free appliances I have ever owned.

THeir old DVD players sucked ass. I won't touch another one of their DVD players for a while. They monitors, though, are fantastic, and their phones are pretty good, just not up to Nokia...yet...

BTW, the TXN models aren't "standard definition," they're EDTVs (480p output). Also, alot of people are enabling the 1080i hack on sets in CCs, so you may have seen 1080i output on it and that's why it looked so much better than the others.

Is this ALL TXN models? I have a TXN2726 but it is not a flat display so I don't think it can be done on mine, although the picture is still pretty darn nice for a non flat screen.

EDIT: Ehhh nevermind, I tried it and while it does bring up a service menu that option is not listed. I figured as much.

not really... :/

Ummmm I don't know which monitors you're looking at Oscar but Samsung does produce some outstanding monitors. My parent's monitor died a couple of weeks ago (rebadged Sony Trinitron from Dell) after many years of service. I pointed them to a nice Samsung Dynaflat 17" model and they've been quiet happy with it. To be honest the couple of times I've used their PC it impressed me as well, .20 dpi dot pitch along with a decent refresh rate at 1024x768 (it's running at either 85 or 100 Hz) and it compares quite well to my Sony 17" FD Trinitron display.

I agree, Samsung makes some excellent electronics. In my book they're the new Panasonic. I've used Samsung CRT and LCD monitors, VCR's, DVD players, etc. and I've been very impressed with all of them.

Oh true... forgot about my Samsung 900NF monitors. I actually preferred the 955DF's over them... dunno what's wrong with my eyes.

My 27" tv is a samsung and i've had it since '99. It was rated the best 27" tv at the time by consumers report. I'm happy with my tv.

You're probably looking at a Samsung EDTV unit, the Enhance Definition TV. Samsung has a deally that converts analog to digital on this TV. Its a decent set.

If it weren't for the fact that Sears screwed me out of a low end Samsung 32 inch HD model, I would have been watching it right now. I had it ordered and Sears simply cancelled it based on some pathetic excuse.

For some reason, Philips is another good brand. They carry this TV at Bose stores, and Philips makes decent equipment.
