I'm not trying to make light of this guys death. And even though he was a significant singer in the 80's with his video's.... I don't think his success can measure up to Johnny Cash. Sorry.

That sucks.........I was lucky enough to see him in concert twice. He put on a classy show that rocked hard. I can remember seeing him on the Midnight Special back in the late 70's.

My wife was looking forward to trying to see a Palmer show for one of our annual old fart concert trips.

Oh this sucks.......all the rockin' stars of my youth are croaking. It was the music I threw up with.:(

I liked Simply Irresistable more but they're both great songs and definitely "take me back" to the late 80's.

I remember "Sneaking Sally Throught the Alley" when it first came out. His style and stage presense reminded me of Brian Ferry (though their music was very different)

You mean "Sneaking Sally Through The Alley"?

I was gonna post this myself, but will wonders never cease, I used the SEARCH feature!

I also heard that the guy that played Whitey on Leave it to Beaver died as well. (Don't remember his name though)

Pardon my ignorance, but who the heck is Robert Palmer?

I see on CNN's headline that he was a singer, but I don't recognize the name.

Viper GTS

You make me feel old.

He was in the Power stations... then went solo, remember the video with him singing in front of those models? (Simply Irresistable)

You make me feel old. Robert Palmer was always a solo act. One of his biggest early hits was "Bad Case Of Loving You" ("Doctor, doctor, give me the news. I gotta bad case of loving you..."). He sang with Powerstation (with John and Andy Taylor of Duran Duran) as merely a side project in 1985. You youngsters who don't remember them, you might remember the songs "Bang a Gong" and "Some Like It Hot". They released another CD in the mid 90's, which never took off.

Robert Palmer always comes to mind for me whenever I think of MTV in the days when it was still mostly M rather than Yo MTV Raps and all reality and anything not music all the time. I guess I can tune into VH1-15 or whatever spawn off they are up to now to see some Robert Palmer videos this weekend.

You gotta LOVE that beloved patriot-Tonk piano!

And "The Tower Of Power" horn section on "Waiting For Columbus" is amazing!

That's OK, I'm done. How about you? ;)

Anyway, I think we can get away with it. We are old and easily distracted! ;)

Of course not. But "Simply Irresistable", "Addicted to Love", etc were fun, insanely catchy pop songs that rocked pretty hard compared to most Top 40 crap of that era. Big guitars, real drums, wicked musicianship and beautiful, punchy Nile Rogers production, too. The guy did what he did well - and made a lot of people happy. He deserves respect.
