...i'musingmy friend's pc (with a samsung 172N) and imust say rading on it is much nicer (though he has a horrible keyboard)....normally i can't stand "reading" for longer than a minute but i noticed the LCD does make it nice on your eyes ^_^

i might have to consider a cheap cheap LCD down the road evenif it is small or something...

I liked the switch over too, for general use. When prices start coming down on LCD's worthy of gaming than I prob won't have a CRT.

I can (and do) sit in font of my LCD monitor for 12+ hours/day but when I at someone else's CRT screen I have a hard time lasting 1/2 hour before my eyes start bugging me. My 191T is the sinlge best piece of hardware I've ever bought for my computer. (although my wife would probably disagree with this statement :) )

Yes I to think that the single best PC component I?ve spent money on is my Hitachi LCD. Reading text is so much nicer and I continue to laugh at the people who think that a 16ms screen has issues with gaming. HAH it?s ignorance and stupidity IMO.

I`m happy with my Samsung 191T,using a LCD in DVI mode (where possible)is the only way to go.

Until your eyes adjust, then tv screens seem more flickery, cinema seems to strobe.

I'm really happy with my Microtek C893. I can use this thing for over 12 hrs with no eye issues and it's always bright and very nice colors too. I know however setting down in front of a CRT is about killen to my eyes now. Give me about 30 mins or a hr and I want to just say freak the computer. Gaming or not LCD will always be for me.

Really? I've found that LCDs are harder on my eyes than my Sony CPD-E400 19" CRT.

LCDs have the big advantage that they don`t refresh like CRTs so you get minimal eyestrain,in my experience with both ,LCDs are by far much easier on my eyes.

Unfortunately after spending a year with lcd's I found my eyesite got more and more sensitive to crt's, 85hz was no longer acceptable and only 100hz would be flicker free.

i use my 19" trinitron for ~6 hours a day without a problem (1280x1024 @ 100hz)

but the lcd is crisper. Eye-strain wise i cannot tell a difference. Maybe its young eyes vs. old eyes? :D

Depends on how you read stuff.

If a person is like me were we scan through lots of text then the CRT is still a winner. If you pop open a page and just it, then hit page down then you will like the lcd more since it gives crisper images.

The text gets a bit smeared on a lcd and that gives me eye strain, but as technology increases so does the reaction time.

Right now CRT wins in my book because: 1. Better under a wide variety of lighting conditions. 2. Better/wider range of color definition. Especially at angles. 3. MUCH CHEAPER.

Disk space isn't a consern to me, I have a big deep desk.

I can get a 19" CRT screen for $190 that will equal the picture quality of a 400 dollar 17" LCD display.

However, I realy like LCD's for one major benifit. With them being the fasion right now, (and for a long time) the prices for CRT's dropping rapidly. Pretty soon I will be able to get a nice 22 inch monitor for less then 400 dollars :p

Then I'll wait for the nifty OLED's to get out on the market and render both LCD's and CRT's completely obsolete.

I have to say I prefer my CRT, higher res = teh win. Prices are so low now it's easy to get a huge one too. I'm not even bothered by 60Hz flicker, though, so I suppose I'm blessed. ^^

Just in case anyone hasn't found it already, one thing that does help LCDs a lot is turning on ClearType (sub pixel rendering) if you're using Windows XP.

my current sony trinitron is a TON sharper for text than any monitor i've ever seen. If you get a good CRT.. it's A LOT sharper than your mediocre CRTs.. and almost comparable to LCDs..

the only thing that bugs me about LCDs is the contrast and the brightness... the colors all looked washed out and isn't anywhere near as vibrant as a CRT... only exception are NEC LCDs, which are comparable to the average CRT, but a superbright CRT, wins hands down

Ya I totally agree with you. One thing I don't like (and maybe this is my monitor only) is when I scroll down it kinda jumps a little, I think it might have to do with the refresh rate or something, mine is at 72 hertz (max is 75 hertz, is it bad to go to max?)

Well I have a 19" Trinitron and I can say that an LCD is far better for text reading. It has nothing to do with the sharpness, it's all about how a CRT just has a flickering image, even with refresh set to 100Hz for me. Granted, this has been due to being so adjusted on the LCD. 15 years ago I was quite happy with 60Hz CRT screens on my Amiga.

What do you have the refresh rate set to on your CRT??

For many, the price on the 191T is justifiable. If price is no object, the 191T is the best 19" LCD on the market. -Anandtech.com

My LCD has richer color and is much easier on my eyes, but just doesn't cut it for gaming.

Just got my PX171M BK Planar from the dell deal $326shipped after taxes for a bright 16ms LCD... Dell asked some people if they wanted 1901FP instead after seeing the planar I don't think I can part with it.

I'd like you to take a nice CRT and put it next to let's say... a Dell 1800FP LCD. When they're apart in different rooms you may not notice it, but when right next to each other there is a very noticeable difference. I thought my 21" Sony Trinitron monitor was nice until I hooked up my 1800FP with DVI next to it, put the trinitron to shame.
