Just got a HUGE credit at gamestop (huge to me) , I threw in a library of video games and consoles

Could have made more selling on ebay but I wanted the stuff out this afternoon.

Haven't shopped consoles for a while although I've played them alot at friends houses, I'm pretty surprised at the $ diff between a xbox360 refurb (which I would never buy because of the heat/power problems) and a refurb PS3 (even the old 80G model).

Haven't seen much in this area on forum or internet, but any idea when to expect a price drop on current models or possibly a PS3 "Arcade"?

😀

Never a PS3 arcade.

Keep your eye on the NPD reports for December and the next couple of months. November was bad for the PS3. Continued slow sales could signal an imminent price cut.

If I had to guess, April or May would be the soonest.

looks like I'm keeping my PS2 slim...unless I EBAY the console as a bundle w/ some nice PS2 games including 2xguitar hero controllers.

Wow, PS2 is commanding a pretty high price on EBAY still, who would have thought?

Are you serious? http://cgi.ebay.com/PLAYSTATION-3-P...0510911884?pt=Video_Games&hash=item45f7d89d8c

Why not just buy a freaking PS2 and a PS1? D:

All PS3's can play PS1 games.

The PS3's that can play PS2 games are able to upscale the PS2 games right? I could be wrong on that. But that may be why people are willing to shell out hundreds more for an old generation PS3.

There is no PS3 arcade. The 360's listed for $120 do not have a HD. All PS3's do. So take that into account. Because MS raped people on HD's for some idiotic reason. Nor do they have built in Wifi. I would never buy an older 360 because of the very good possibility of it dying on me, and the lack of a HD and wifi. Just stop being cheap, and get a new slim for $300 with a 120gb HD.

"Support for emulation to play PS2 titles is not present in the Slim version"

from wikipedia, looks like only the old model supports it but new one has an emulator which I assume means you download the PS2 games from the online sony store, after paying for them?

I looked into this on sonys website and it's confirmed. Even then, it looks like the games had issues being played on a ps3 regardless even if it was teh old one

I believe Sony has actually gone over those games and recoded them to work with the PS3's hardware. They're not emulated. You can emulate the Emotion Engine pretty easily but the GS chip proves more difficult. All BC capable PS3s kept the hardware Graphics Synthesizer GPU.

$299 isn't a lot for the PS3. It's also a 3D blu-ray player and comes with a hard drive. It's the same price as the 360 250gb.

I never understood why someone would buy a PS3 and play PS2 games on it. Everyone I know who has a PS3 still has a PS2 and plays a small amount of games on it

You misread my post.

I said all PS3's can play PS1 (ONE) games.

New model PS3 and 360-with-HD are both $299. PS3 doesn't add $40+ a year like 360 does for online play and Netflix streaming.

The cost of PS3 refurbs is higher partly because they're much more likely to still be working in 6 months than a pre-Jasper 360. Also, with 360's it might have been banned from online use after modding was detected.

If you're buying new, the 360 slims are perfectly reliable and for that $40/year you do get better online play with twice as many people online to play with.

As fbrdphreak mentioned Best Buy has the PS3 with a $50 gift card. Not as nice as the $75-100 off deals at xmas, but you snooze you lose.

<3 my launch PS3.

If you want to play PS1/2 games then keep your PS2 and get a PS3 when it feels right or there's a price drop. The only alternative to that is to get a used PS3 that has backwards compatibility.

If you don't care about PS1/2 games then sell the PS2 and just get a new slim. If the Move interests you at all then the $399 bundle is a relatively good deal.

I was extremely pleased with kinnect, move interests me as a more effeftive wii ajd the possibility of hardcore game/simulation use

I don't think Sony will be cutting prices on hardware anytime soon, at least not before E3. Sales were down year-to-year in November, but only because November of last year was when they got a big bump from the release of their Slim model. Microsoft is still enjoying a boost from 360-S sales, as well as selling more 360s alongside Kinects.

I'm constantly in awe that the Wii is still plugging away as well as it is. I'll be curious to see if the release of GT5 affects PS3 hardware sales at all in December, although I doubt it will make a noticeable difference in sales numbers.

The PS3 only did 530k worth of sales in November. That's horrible for the biggest shopping months of the year. Sony reacted by offering incentives in December through retailers like the $75 and $100 credits at Amazon. That appears to have helped as there are analysts predicting that the PS3 hit just over 1 million in sales but it's still sub-par compared to the Wii and Xbox 360.

If sales of the PS3 are still lackluster after the line-up of exclusive games that Sony has on tap in the first quarter, I think a price drop is a no-brainer. The constant gift card and credit promotions are a signal.

Besides which, all three consoles are due for a price drop of some sort this year.

Compared to what the system was at launch its a bargain now.

In my opinion 360 online experience is still 10x better and worth my $40-50 every 13 months.

Playing off a 360 I got a month after launch with no problems ever...except the DVD tray getting stuck occasionally.

Live is a better service but not worth anywhere near $40-50 a year, at all. You get it for free on the PC...lol

You can get PS3's cheap on Craigs, like $150-200. PS3 is the better hardware, no question, but their software leaves a bit to be desired. Luckily, the games have really improved on PS3 the last year or two.

My good online friends play PS3 so I just play on it mostly until I can't take PSN anymore...lol Then I take a hiatus until the next big game. I haven't played a game really consistently since Socom 2, probably. I usually play for a month or three, get bored, and move on.

PS: You could also use the credit to buy a 360 then trade it on Craigs for a PS3, people swap from one side to other daily...lol
