I bought the game, and played it for a month during Christmas break (the free month that comes with it) and cancelled my subscription when school started up again. I made a Lv. 32 Shaman in that time. I imagine this summer I'll probably get it started again.

If you have an ounce of self control/sense it wont ruin control your life. wasn't all that hard on me to cancel the subscription

I play "for fun". I've averaged no more then 45 minutes a day since I started back in August. My advice? Get a group of friends and play together. When I started off my friends created a guild... 10 people. Now it's over 70 people, with an average of 5-6 online at any given time. Be very selective with who you play with, there are TONS of people that play the game. If someone pisses you off, or is stupid put them on your ignore list and forget about them. The people you play with make or break the game.

The bolded statement is so true. I bought the game, but my friends were all flaky so I ended up playing mostly by myself. I stopped playing after level 17 and haven't had the desire to play since.

I play in an end game guild(that is, doing MC/BWL and AQ whenever it opens on our server).
I also manage to squeeze in a full time job, going to the gym every day, drinking beer with my friends(though we do combine WoW and beer quite often ;) ), and some other stuff.

It's all about having the self discipline to prioritize real life stuff before a computer game, of course I don't have as good gear or as much money as some others in my guild, but I'd rather have a life than fictional items and money.

I am seriously considering getting WoW sometime soon. I have heard a lot of this about it controlling your life and stuff. Should I do it?

Like I said in my post, it's all about discipline.
If you have some of it, you won't have any problems at all with WoW.
If you don't, and find WoW fun, chances are your social life will suffer quite a bit.

Can also be rephrased as: Only you can answer that question.

is there an ATOT WoW guild?

i essentially quit playing because at 60 i ran out of stuff to do because i wasn't into the raiding, pvp, or grinding. also because my guild broke up and a lot of people i enjoyed playing the game with quit playing.

I played for a while, and let it rule my life... I quit it after a while because it was cutting into my binge drinking time.

i never cease to be amused at the number of countless idiots failed out of school last semester as a direct result of their addiction to this game

oh.. and my story- i hit lvl 50 in 10 days, one of the first to do so server-wide when WOW first came out last year. something like 16 hours a day, from day1-day10. tauren shammy- overpowered to hell. then i got bored.

^ kind of characteristic... i tend to go all out for a short period, then lose interest (pertains to things that amuse me)

I play for fun. I've had the game since November of 2004 and have one character. That character is a level 53. I play evey now and then. In a few more months I should make 60.

I played a few months when the game released, got a horde shaman to 60 and hit MC once. My girlfriend was ready for an intervention. I quit for the summer.

I started again this winter and now have an Alliance Druid almost to 60. I try to control my play time, usually results in a little bit much, but not too bad. The real trick for me is to NOT go on any instance runs. They always take longer than expected, and I don't want to end up stuck in an instance while my girlfriend is tapping her foot waiting for me to help her make dinner... I also make sure to actually stop playing and make sure I do things with her and other people outside of the game. Unfortunately for me I'm in a guild that is actively in MC and ZG right now, and I really want to go, but am being cut off too much to actually do it. :(

Yeah, it completely depends who you play with as mentioned above, also it's about self-discipline. I know that when I head back to school, I'll cancel my account, I mean they keep your character indefinately so you won't loose out much. But yeah, I don't watch too much TV and this basically takes place of it.

I'm pretty well off in a guild that completes bwl in a day(5-6ish hours) mc in a day (4ish hours) and that's about the only thing I log in for.
