WoW players- Trouble with BEFSR81 or other Linksys routers?

This is an odd problem: Not long ago, the people in my family who play WoW (2 of em, plus sometimes a 3rd) lose synchronization with their server. In other words, they can still move, interact with NPCs, etc and have it transmit to the server (they've verified this with their guildmates), but the server does not send data back to them. This eventually disconnects them. It also doesn't happen to all at the same time.

Our router is a Linksys BEFSR81. Port Forwarding and Triggering has thus far not helped, and we have verified that this is an issue with the router because when connected to a cable modem with the router out of the loop, WoW plays fine.

Can anyone else say they've had or heard of this problem? And/or is there a known fix? Suggestions welcome as well.

Thanks,
Eag

I didn't run into any problems using a Linksys with WoW.

Have you tried doing some traceroutes to WoW domains when they get the problem?
If you bypass the router or put them in the dmz does the problem go away?
If they run a program like AIM in the background does it remain connected when they time out?

Bliz's own answer on using routers:

It's not a solution but might help out.

Ok, I just put one of the computers into the DMZ. Is there any way to input multiple IP addresses..?
I'll post the results later after they've tested it with the new settings. And yes, other programs remain connected.

Been to Blizzard's router page, didn't help much :(

Yes there is a known issue with some linksys routers and WoW. A friend of mine was at his GFs playing and the router was not updated with the newest bios. He was booted about every 5 mins. After reading the support forums and blizzards faq he found an issue with certain linksys routers that was fixed by using the newest bios.

After updating the router the issue went away. He also had the same problem at home.

Awesome! Not only did that fix the problem entirely, but filesharing has gained a very noticable speed boost...prior to this, it could take up to 10-15 seconds on our slower computers to access shared folders on another machine. Now it's nigh instantaneous.
