Wow, parents can actually RULE (happy rant)

I've just got to say that I have the most gracious parents in the world.

Background note: I'm 21, single, and have just finished up my 3rd year at ERAU (academic year ended in early May) in Arizona where I'm majoring in Electrical Engineering.

The past 2 summers I have gone home (to Virginia) and worked. Didn't have a car of my own as my parents said that I didn't need one (I always drove my mom's '87 Honda Accord to work and such and it worked out fine), and if I wanted to build my own custom machine, I'd have to pay for it all myself. And let's just say that I never made enough to be both an active paintball player AND save up for a custom rig.

ANYWAY, fastforward to this summer. I decided to stick around here and work so I could still hang out with my friends who are also still here for the summer. Well, my parents said, "Well, we always said that when you needed a car, you'd have one. And you need a car." NOw, considering these are my parents, I assumed they'd get me a good, but used car. Imagine my surprise when they email me and say, "We ended up getting you a new 2005 Subaru Forester." My jaw hit the floor. Not only that, they drove up with it (2200 miles) here to deliver it to me! Killer deal. Since they were sticking around for the weekend, it also meant I didn't have to eat a single meal on campus and all meals paid for by them (I'm you usual poor college student. this was a luxury I was not used to).

Now, my laptop is also starting to slowly die, so I mentioned the necessity of a new computer in the near future. They said, "make a list of the system you want and send it to us." So, I did so about a month ago, with the parts for an awesome PC (gaming and home entertainment in mind).....and I was expecting them to say, "Sorry, but this is too expensive." but, my dad emailed me instead and said, "Son, I went and ordered the parts you specified". OMG!! They didn't! My parents, the ones who have always said, "Your computer works fine for what you need it for. You do NOT need a computer to play video games on." just KNOWINGLY (my dad is a little better with computer hardware and software than I am. if I order parts for a gaming PC, he can tell by the parts list) BOUGHT all that I needed for my DREAM SYSTEM!!

All that's left is the 450 Watt psu to come in, and then it's ready to be started up.

And I just have to say that my parents rock:beer:!

OP, your parents are like my parents. Last summer, they bought me a 2004 Nissan Xterra and I even built two desktops with their money. They said they'll buy me a laptop since I hardly use my computer because I'm an Industrial Design which their courses took most of my free time.

That I have NOT forgotten. My dad is getting a real nice father's day present, and when I talked to them on the phone and mentioned that I could run win xp64, I felt so guilty that I said, "If you want to get that for me, that's fine. But I know you've already spent alot on me, and I will be fine without it." I get an email from them the next day saying "Go on and buy it w/ the credit card." see, the credit card account is in my name, but they pay the bills on it (I use it for stuff like plane tickets home, and other major expenses where I need to do the purchasing but where they've said, "This is something we'll pay for.")

The most they are hearing from me lately is profuse thanking.

And when I get home for Christmas, they're both getting major bear hugs (I'm significantly taller than both of them at 6'1". My mom is about 5'4" and my dad is 5'9").

There's gotta be something wrong here though. Have you asked them if everything's alright? People generally don't just do this kind of thing...

Hm...maybe I'm wrong. Be happy. :)

holy crap. Thats awesome.

I also must note that beforehand, while they were perfectly willing to take care of my NEEDS, they always had a policy of having me pay for my wants (except at Christmas time, or in little spurts of generosity) so that they wouldn't spoil me. And I am glad they didn't spoil me, b/c they never made alot of money (both are public HS teachers....now very happily retired) and now they make even less, and are now drawing alot off of the investments they've had sitting around and growing for about 25 years now.....so for them to be THIS gracious totally blows me away.

I was telling my pastor about this and said, "It's like I want to say, 'I'm not worthy of all this." But I won't tell them that, since I know what it's like to just give someone something out of the goodness of your heart, and that's what my parents are doing, and I love them too much to be a prideful bastard and say, "I'm not worthy, therefore I don't want it."

Safety ratings, reliability, fuel economy, and ability to haul my stuff.

I love the Forester. Handles like a dream, and the AWD is killer (already got me out of a few jams involving front wheels getting into sand), fuel economy is great (just normal city driving and highway driving for me. last fill up, I calculated my fuel consumption to be about 28 mpg), and the 6 CD changer in the dash rocks :D. Plus, it has a HUGE sunroof :D.
