A couple of junkies stole his credit card info, bought food at a denny's in the town where the credit card owner lived, then checked into the hotel next door. Credit card company called him up asking f he made the charges at the dennys, so he investigated on his own at the dennys, and found the perps next door. He called the cops when he confirmed they were there. The cops promptly arrested them, and threw some needles out in a coke bottle.

that guy got extremely lucky at the Denny's and the motel to get so much info from employees, but hey, good for him. The police never would have been able to follow up like that on a simple fraud case. He may well have saved himself from a major identity theft problem that could've taken years to clean up.

Almost the exact same thing happend to my dad, some idiots stole his checkbook and printed thier own checks after using all of the ones in the book. One of the things they paid for was Papa Johns. Papa Johns calls dad and are pissed that the check didn't clear. He goes down to Papa Johns and talks with the employee who goes through the records and pulls up what address the delivery was made to. Detective who had been assigned to the case didn't even care to hear about it.
