Wow! Once my area gets DSL, I will be a measly 6900 feet from the CO!

Just checked on DSL reports- WOW! I have seen a few signs about alltell DSL coming, so I'm assuming that is their CO.

Anyone with alltell DSL now have any opinions?

If I can get 1.5mbps ADSL for the same price as my cable ($40/month), which may be unlikely, well, that's a pretty easy decision.

6900? He he, I live a measly 2000 feet right now, and the apartment I'm moving into next week is less than 1700 ft.

My 1544/384 ADSL is actually closer to 1800/450 😉 - about the only good thing about living in the middle of the city.

reitz, holy crap!

Yeah, I get good speed with my cable, it's great and all, but I dunno, I think more people are getting it so it's being a lil slower than it should be in the evenings when I want to play a rousing game of rogue spear. =\

Plus, they capped my upload late last summer, now, that was no big deal during the school year because I really never had time to host or anything, but now I would like to host rogue spear! I can still host a few friends for UT though. 🙂

If you are seriously 16,000 feet away, you are technically only 160 feet shy of what you need right? Just run a long ass cable to your computer.

LOL@Luckster.

Is there a way to tell how far away from the CO you are? Calling phone company is useless; they told me "that is sensitive info...we can't tell you." WTF? Is there a utility (maybe DSLReports or something like that?)

Oh, I consistently show 150kb/sec DL and 130kbs/UL speeds on DSLreports' speed tests. For a very long time I suffered with (giggle) dialup. I used to get a lickety-split 2.3kbs DL speed. DLing a 8mb Detonator driver would take all freakin' night! Dont' miss that crap at all.

im 7,864 feet from my CO and i sometimes dont get the speeds Telocity said i would i think its time for an upgrade to WIN2k maybe that will help im suppose to have 768/768 but as of right now i have 711 down 241 up what kinda crap is that

CO = Central Office

As far as getting more than your "official rates," it's not because you're close to the CO. The provisioning at the CO determines the line rate. A "768k" line from Qwest, for example, is provisioned at 960/816.

these speeds are making me salivate 😀 i live out in the sticks, which means no DSL or cable modem. best i could do is ISDN, but the phone lines are terrible around here.

Bump for my question:

Is there a way to tell how far away you are from the CO WITHOUT asking the phone company? I asked them and they told me it was "privelaged information." 😛
