Yes. I actually met him once, back in 2001 or so. The servers holding AT and forums were in the datacenter of the ISP I worked at. I was walking back to my cubicle from a trip to the bathroom and noticed a brown-skinned guy with a couple of other people building a server in one of our cubes. Not just anyone got to do that, so I figured he had to be a big money customer, and he looked strangely familiar.
I sat back down at my desk and fired up the front page, like I usually did at work back then. The top post was a note about going to the datacenter in Pittsburgh to do an upgrade to the forums servers. I'd been browsing AT for a couple of years at that point, but had no idea the forums were hosted so close 😉 I put two and two together and figured out who was building the server, and went over to introduce myself.
Afterward (and after the forums were back up and online) someone posted a thread complimenting the speed of the new forums and asking everyone to post a traceroute. I was delighted to post mine that showed only two hops with just a couple of milliseconds between each. 😀
