Has anyone built a gaming rig based on the new silverstone slim desktop, SST-LC02

I'm thinking of building a system based on this with a 9800 Pro and 2.6C P4, and a WD raptor 10,000 RPM hard drive. Am I insane?

Case sounds almost too good to be true:

supports Full height AGP graphics card
Supports Standard ATX MB
Beautiful (antec/coolermaster should hang their heads in shame)
Dimensions: (LxWxH) 11.6" x 15" x 4"
External USB/Firewire/Audio ports

Interesting that it supports full size ATX motherboards. You'd only get to use 2 slots, but that'd be enough for a lot of people now that so much is integrated. It's definitely not an overclocker's case, since airflow is bound to be positively awful. It's also unfortunate that you can't use anything but a slim optical drive. It does look nice, but I'd still rather have an overture or D-Vine. :)

I've looked at the overture and it's a tank compared to this, plus the design is just about the whackiest case I have seen. Hard to believe they dumped the fusion for that frankencase.

The D-Vines look great but their cheapest with with a full ATX MB is $250, and it's a tank. The Ahanix D-vine 6 and 7 series look promising though and a lot cheaper, but microatx.....

this looks like a company to watch. They seem to be bringing a new style to the case community with their cases and power supplies. I really like th 120mm fan layout that they use for their power supplies (rip off of fortron) thought they look nice. This case is definitely meant to compete with the minuet and the lc01 to compete with the overture. Being an owner of the Minuet, I really like the size of the case but it's very deep. Looking at the pics posted at newegg, the case looks fairly cheap, though it has a high price tag in comparison to antec. For high end, stick with D-Vine. Get the d-vine if you want a true htpc. If you are just looking for a nice looking gaming machine, this probably isn't what you want. With a 2.6c P4 and a 10K WD Raptor, you're looking at a very loud inefficient (in regards to cooling) machine.

Size Comparisons (converted to metric):

SST-LC02 = 295 mm (D) x 382 mm (W) x 100mm (H)
Antec Minuet = 428 mm (D) x 324 mm (W) x 96 mm (H)

SST-LC01 = 450 mm (D) x 425 mm (W) x 159mm (H)
Antec Overture = 483 mm (D) x 432 mm (W)133 mm (H)

Very good points bookie!

I considered the minuet (a bargain and looks nice), but I'm looking at full size ATX and a full height AGP graphics card neither of which the minuet support.

So my direct comparison is the SST LC02 to the Overture

SST-LC02 = 295 mm (D) x 382 mm (W) x 100mm (H)
Antec Overture = 483 mm (D) x 432 mm (W)133 mm (H)

BIG size difference.

I've got a server at home (SC600) that has ALL my storage except program files and I have the burners on the the server also so my requirements for my workstations are fairly modest.

On the raptor I'm waiting for the new fluid bearing Version 2 to come out. So for now just plain IDE.

BTW:

I'm not really looking for HTPC, just a desktop style case that will fit and look good in.....

my cofee table.

Right now I have an Atec KS-282 in my cofee table and it looks like cr@p.

Yes that's a tower case, I just laid it on it's side.

Works great
Looks bad.

As there is nothing covering the back of my cofee table the shorter lenght of the SST-LC02 will give all my wires a few more inches to hide.

Might not even put a slim CDROM in the thing. An external CDROM sitting on my cofee table will be a lot more convenient (to lazy to bend down to reach the computer), and I can tuck it out of the way when company comes over.

Full size ATX, full size AGP slots there really is almost nothing that looks good unless you want a beige or charcol computer looking box. The overture is just too silly to even think about, PSU in the front? Smooth move antec. Is someone dyslesic designing thier cases? The silvertek and D-Vine and cooler master stuff looks great but gosh those d-vines are silly expensive. Best I have seen is the brand new series seven for $139, but it's micro ATX and low profile. The series 6 with the TWO CDROMs looks great and has full height expansion slots but then you are hitting $250 w/o PSU again.

IF I could live with a micro ATX MB I think the Coolermaster 610/620 with a 300+ W fortron or silvertek 120mm fan would be great. But then my program of gradual upgrade is shot. Can't do case, then MB/cpu, then memory, then .... gotta do all at once since i have an ATX MB right now.
