When I bought my '91 Ford Festiva, the guy said he put cheap tires on it. Needless to say it was noisy and rough riding.

So now, 2 years and 18,000 miles later I go to Big O Tires, which I've never heard of (it's the only place in town), and get their top of the line tires. It's hard to find 145/0SR12 tires. They had the 155s.

They put them on, and there is a huge difference. The drive feels smoother, my car no longer slides when it turns, and the noise is significantly reduced.

4 for $159 is a good deal. Especially when these guys were coming in with their SUVs and paying $570.

By the way, those $3000 rims that spin when they stop? Those are stupid looking.

Thats what i thought till i saw Keshawn Johnson roll up with his bentley with them...... A little much for me but quite nice!

Meh, the torque would flip my car over, so I'm in no hurry. Plus at 5x the cost of my car, I'll pass. :D

Heh, I was talking to another customer and he said with his luck, some kid would run up and stick his hand in it and he'd get sued.

Sounds about right. :p

A little off topic, but do you have any significant difficulty composing a sentence without using an exclamation point? (just something I've wondered for a while now, heh)

Supply and demand. Simple economics.

If your car uses tires that do not have a lot of vehicles that uses them, demand will be low and cost will be high.

The last tires I bought were about $159 each, Goodyear Eagle F1s. Had to get 4 of them.
That combined with another $2000 in suspension and steering upgrades/repairs .

Now the car drives quite nicely. Had trouble keeping it on the road before.

"0SR" don't look right. There's no such tire. So you went from 145mm width to 155mm width? Isn't changing tire width be considered out-of-spec?(of course, those crazy Honda modders are all about being out-of-spec...)

Report back how the fuel economy is affected. More width means more rolling resistance.

Bleh I just had to buy 4 tires that cost me about $200/each (295/45/18). I had only had the Lightning 2 months and had 2 flat tires in 2 days. Damn things are so wide they suck up ANYTHING on the road... unfortunately I had to find that out the hard (and expensive) way. :(
Now It's even harder trying to keep myself from melting the new ones down to the wheel. ;)

You did see that it is a Festiva right?
No disrespect intended to the owner

You'll have a fuel report in about a week and a half. I'm going to MS. I got about 55-60mpg with the old tires.

0SR tires. That's also what the tires at the store said.

There should be a number where the 0 is for the aspect ratio.

Link.

According to that, if the tire is taller than it is wide, the aspect ratio would be <1, and thus rounded to 0. Check any tire website, they exist.

12" rims, damn that's tiny. What kind of gas mileage do you get? I hope at least 40MPG. [edit] you claimed 55-60MPG on the old ones, in a 1991 vehicle--impressive. If true. Edmunds claims the original manuf. EPA #'s of 35-42. Unless you do driving mostly downhill, or chained to semi's, your claim of 55-60 seems to be BS.[/edit]

I cheaped out and bought some slightly less expensive tires for both of our cars this time around. Not bottom of the barrel, but, not top of the line either. It does make a difference, the more expensive ones handled much better and were quieter. But, I can live with it, the cars are getting older and my wallet is getting thinner. Maybe if the economy pics back up I'll go back to the nice stuff...

Is this your car (if the link works)

That's my car with a few options. My car is in the pic in my first post. I can drive from Bedford, IN to Biloxi, MS on ~14 gallons of gas. The distance is 746 miles. I actually go a different way than mapquest says, it's longer but less insane (the roads wind a lot here). Let's say it's 750 miles. 750/14=53.5715 mpg.

The guy I got it from messed with the engine. I don't know what he did exactly, it's wired up really weird. For example the fan isn't automatic. I have a toggle switch. It only really needs it in uphill driving on really hot days. I made the trip up here without it. He said the engine does 48HP.
