I just recommended this scanner to get my boss for his wife's b-day. I'll let you guys know if I still have a job in several weeks. Wish me luck ;)

you can change the thread to $249 AR.

Price has gone up to $349

But there is now a $100 rebate.

Is $249 a good price for this scanner?/

Went down to $342 plus the $100 Rebate but I already got the 3170 when the kicked back $50 and I'm quite pleased with it. ;)

On the product page: "Availability: Usually ships within 24 hours"

At checkout: "Estimated ship date: November 17, 2003 - November 24, 2003"

I think that's a bit deceptive. Super deal, though.

This is a fantastic scanner. Sure, you can pick up one to copy your receipts for $20, but that's not what this is for. 3200dpi OPTICAL resolution is very nice. It has a built in top light for negative scanning that actually works, and is (nearly) comparable to a slide/negative scanner. I don't know if the software has gone through a good update, but if you just wanted 600dpi negative scans, it would automatically scan multiple negaitve frames from a strip into separate photoshop files.

I picked up the 2450 at CC for about $200AR a year ago. It's fast on simple stuff since it's FW/USB2. The 3200 adds speed (3X I believe) and the higher resolution, but should be similar in performance to the 2450...read the review here:

So how'd it go?

Anyone know how much "better" the HP 3200 is than the HP 3170?

Thanks.

Was just looking into this as well. Saw it on Amazon, they've got a misleading link to two separate $100 rebates ($200 in rebates would have sold me).

A cursory check of features lists the 3200 as having firewire, wherease the 3170 doesn't. At least one factor to take into account.

Nice scanner but too rich for me. Any suggestions on a 3 in 1 multifunction machine. HP's ink is too exspensive. How about Canon or Epson for $150 or LESS ?? Any opinions besides this $300+ scanner? Tia.
