Sorry for getting off-topic... some personal attacks got me a bit steamed. (What else would you call someone saying I'm an idiot for believing?)

Anyone who can't see the sorry state of the world right now is simply too busy in their "own little world" where everything is rosy. They have their job, the grocery store always has food, the gas station keeps the car going, and a walk in the park is refreshing. With that view, everything is grand and beautiful.

As soon as you start realizing our farmers are having a real tough time with disappearing topsoil, toxic pesticides to kill the ever-resistant insects, meat industries pumping animals full of hormones and antibiotics to the point of making that meat bad for our bodies, fish full of mercury and other toxins, air barely breathable in certain areas of either high traffic or high industry (or simply in the meteorologic airstream path), water drinkable only through carbon filters... This world is a big, friggin' mess. That's not going to change either because it costs industries MONEY to clean up after themselves. Oil barons are not willing to give up the billions of dollars they earn from polluting-petroleum sales.

And then there's the wars.... Over in the contry in question, women are back to where they were (or worse) a thousand years ago. If they're allowed out of the house AT ALL, they must be covered head to toe in veils and covers. Any exposed flesh results in being stoned to death in the streets. (Man... and you say the Bible is far-fetched? The same thing is still happening today!) I can't imagine this situation getting much worse, except that if that idea of total, blatant evil continues to thrive and comes overseas. Then we can see you guys butchering Christians in the streets like is happening overseas. (circa, Time magazine. Check out the issue with the "Most Famous Photographs"... they had a good/shocking article about the consistent butchery of all Christians they can get their hands on.

Then again... maybe that mentality HAS crossed over already...

<<Anyone who can't see the sorry state of the world right now is simply too busy in their "own little world" where everything is rosy.>>

Yea yea, worlds been going to hell in a handbasket for 1000 of years but the more things change the more they stay the same. My grandpa used to walk 20 miles in waist deep snow uphill both ways to school too, and I'm sure I will say the same thing some day. World isn't any worse off than it was 50 years ago, in fact we have made drastic improvements in most countries. Some people would rather revile in the bad stuff than look at the good things though, pessimists the lot of em.

------OT----------

<I pity you.>>

Ah isn't that cute, pity. I see why Red thinks you are a complete twit, tend to agree with him.

<<Interesting, to say the least. What's really funny, is you may call me a fool now, and I may be. What's horrible is that I may be right. If so, then you have no choice, your knee will bow someday, at the final judgement. You will have no choice.>>

No it's not horrible, because you aren't right. And when you die you will never know that you aren't right because the light will turn off and it won't matter. Get over it.

<<I don't intend to belittle you as you enjoy doing to those who disagree with you.>>

Liar. The pity comment was an _attempt_ to belittle me. I simply practice biblical justice, you flame me and you better be prepared for it back. If you can't stand the heat don't be tossing the flames.

rahvin You're just fighting for the sake of fighting, aren't you?
Picking fights with anyone who crosses your path, anyone who doesn't think you're absolutely correct.

Prove me wrong then with absolute evidence.
Go do your research and prove to me without a doubt.
You seem so offended I don't have the paperwork here at school for me to do the same...

Red - we're at the usual impasse here on Anandtech. Someone is on one side, and I'm on the other. Now most of the people in question are just name-calling. I've really been doing my best not to do the same, and I've not said ANYONE is going to "burn in hell" and so forth. While I know my Bible better than most, and through scientific arguement and enough evidence, decided to believe it- I have NOT gone on the rampage to "convert" anyone. I've only presented my view, nothing more.
The same can not be said for the attackers.

That's the only thing that bugs me... I'm the one who looks bad, while the offenders come off looking like some kind of hero. (Mainly because people don't seem to like Christians no matter how nice they are.)

If I were ever in an online deal with you, at least you know I won't rip you off. :p
Pity that some people that CALL themselves Christians are anything but.

Like I said before, there's nothing I can say or do to convince you guys of anything. Whether it be Geforces or religions. I can quote one NONFICTION reference book after another until I'm blue in the face, to no effect. So, make up your own mind. All I ask is that you don't do it in total ignorance.

My heart is with Israel, but my head says "Boy, what a mistake this was."

Religious states are a big mistake and the mistake is getting more obvious every day. We are quickly becoming one world. The parochial interests of one group of people cannot be served except in the most backward of nations. Modern nations must be free to make decisions in their best interest without turning to a Rabbi, Priest, Shahman, or Ayahtollah for agreement. I hope Bush understands this lesson.

Israel will only be safe when it rids itself of the tyranny of its Rabbis and right-wingers. Israel's problems are within, as are the problems of many Arab nations. Once the body politic is cleansed of the offending and infected barb of religiosity, Israel, and the Arab nations will prosper in safety.

I agree that neither Sharon nor Barak are good solutions, but Sharon is much worse than Barak. Barak may be bland and indecisive, but he is not a warmonger like Sharon.

Religion has a place in our lives, but it has no place in governing nations.

Jerusalem is destined to become the Seat of Power for the Whole World.

Sharon understands this, and sees no need to negotiate with Outlaws.

This is a great day for Israel, as they have voted for Victory first, then peace.

<< So you decide to attack the Christians. Not the Buddhists, or New Age psychics, or even the Islams and such. Only the Christans get this treatment.... >>

Because it's the Christians that spread thier word by force instead of letting people accept God. Christians are more of If you don't believe in MY God then you will or I'll kill you.

Don't tell me that's not true.

Crusades, Inquisitions, Treatment of Native Americans(including Inca and Aztec), Holocaust, I'm sure I'm missing some events in christian history.

But this is why we rag on Holy Rollers and Bible Thumpers

To bluemax and all who are arguing on the merit of the bible. To truely "research" the bible, you have approach it from both a theological perspective and an archaeological perspective; and must approach both in good faith. You can't pick and choose the archaelogical evidence or pick and choose the biblical passages. The former is where many have failed. I've seen articles writen using hand-picked archaeological evidence to support it. It's the big picture. The bible borrows some of its ideas from other creation stories (Gilgamesh, Atrahausis); and that is a fact. However, that does not diminish its merit or meaning; since it was never meant to be a "detailed-explain-it-all" textbook of the history of earth/man.

Of that, I agree 100%!!! Most of the problems during the dark ages revolved around the Roman Catholic Empire that decided that the beliefs and traditions of their church is "correct" and anyone caught reading a Bible, preaching, or doing anything that might make them learn the untruths of that system, is labelled a heretic to be tortured and burned at the stake.
The church WAS the state. This dates back to the Roman empire... the Roman emperor wanted to relocate to New Constantinople (I believe it was?) and left his old throne and a large contingient of his army in the hands of the church leaders. They were to maintain his kingdom as they saw fit. Ohhh boy..... Noooooooobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!

Church and state is badbadbadbad..... and Bush is heading right towards it it looks.
