Wow...MBM 5.07 is INTENSE! Um, how do you work this thing?

Allrighty then. I'm no Einstein, but I can hold my own, 'ya know? I DL'd MBM 5.07b (latest version) and loaded it up. Holy Thousands of Choices, Batman! This things' got more bells and whistles than a model train factory!

How do you set this thing up? It lists about 28 or so different sensors...i didn't know my mobo had that many. And at least four (that I remember) in the CPU? I know for a fact that Socket A Athlons have no on-die thermal sensor like PIII's do.

All the sensors, fans, etc. How do I know that MBM is reading "FAN 1" actually off the "FAN 1" header on my mobo?

I'm honestly confused and intimidated by this thing. (Hey, I'm secure enough in my manhood to admit I'm intimidated! I'm still cool. 😎 )

If someone could help me out, I'd appreciate it. Thanks much.

the monitor didnt work and i found it too big and useless, so i jacked it. i just use asus probe if im interested [.001% of the time]. goodluck.

Personally, I like the Via Hardware monitoring utility. I find it to be concise and unobtrusive. But, part of this hobby is trying stuff out. I'd like to play with this for awhile. Give it an honest chance to see if I actually prefer it. I am an information/control nut. I like TV remotes with 3,000 buttons on each side. I can control more stuff with it! And stuff like that. If I don't dig MBM, I'll have no problem flushing it, but I'd like to actually find out how to use the damn thing first! If I had like, eight hours I didn't know what to do with (yeah, like that's happened in the past 5 years or so.....(sighs longfully for the distant past) I'd just play w/it and figure it out. But, I have the AT forums at my disposal. My good friends, help your dumb-ass friend in his hour of semi-need!

hey, i'm not entirely sure about the fans, only one way to find out, though... On most boards, you get a choice of 3, since the Via southbridge will record 3 fan rpms(or sometimes 4). A good way to check this is to chekc for the cpu fan first, if you know the RPMs of it, then work from there.

As far as the CPU temp is, it should be VIA-686-B Sensor 2. That is hardwired into the socket-thermistor. Via-686b-Sensor 1 should be mb temp, and 3 is either nothing, the system temp, or an unused header(which, when unused, usually just displays MB temp).

Hope this all helps 😉

I used to like motherboard montor until I loaded version 5.07. It was just too confusing and didn't quickly give me the info I wanted which was simply the CPU temp, motherboard temp, and fan speeds.

A great Freeware program that I now is MBProbe. It even works in Windows 2000, and has a simple interface to the basic information from most motherboards. Automatically found my Mobo settings as well. This program does have a lot of options, but they are all intuitive.

Here is the Link!

Best of all, its freeware.

Thanks for the tip Kmmatney. Much appreciated.

Hey MikeWarrior2! As always, you have all the info! You 'da man! Yes, your info helps a whole lot. This proggy lists a fistfull of different VIA sensors...all with diff alphanumeric designations...how the heck is the first-time user supposed to figure that out?

All right. I'll fiddle with this thing now. Thanks again! 🙂

Well, if you go to the mbm website, it'll give you general guidelines for which temp "sensor" corresponds to what on your mb.
