300M Replacement:

http://www.car-truck.com/chryed/buzz/b062701.htm

"Look for the 3.5 to put out between 250 and 300 horsepower. The HEMI will put out at least 353 ponies and almost 400 pound feet of torque. It will probably be matted to either the new 46WRE 4-speed automatic transmission or a Mercedes automatic. The re's also been Buzz that Chrysler is considering offering a 6-speed manual transmission in the convertible."

I have two words: Bad Ass.

That thing will fly with a Hemi in it... now, if they'd just give it AWD.

I think the 300M is a good looking sedan. A definite step up from the Dodge Intrepid...:D

The 300C covert is cool as all hell. As far as the 300n sedan though...what did they do to my 300M? :( Seriously it's got those big 'ol buggy headlights, the thing looks like a total dome from front to the very back etc...... I don't like the sketch 1/2 as much as I like the 300M. I wonder if they're still gonna do the "300M Special" with the extra trim and pepped up engine

"The cylinder deactivation system featured on the convertible concept will probably be used with the HEMI. The system improves fuel efficiency and emissions through automatic deactivation of four of the eight cylinders during highway driving and deceleration. A hydraulically shifted lost-motion feature deactivates the valves while the motor management system interrupts ignition and fuel supply to those cylinders. The system is said to maintain full engine performance for acceleration and overtaking."

Isn't that technology borrowed from the Mercedes S600 Sedan?

It looks more European than the 300M...and it borrows some styling cues from the Crossfire concept car.

<< Hopefully it won't have the same typical cheap Chrysler interior... maybe the Germans can fix it up more like a Benz or Audi on the inside. >>

Now I'll admit that I think the neon has a pretty cheap interior, but c'mon its a neon. What do you have against like the 300M or LHS interior though? I think they're pretty nice actually. If I want an Audi interior, I'll buy an audi. What you say you hope would happen is exactly what I think would cause the death of the chrysler division. People who buy a Chrysler want a chrysler, not a rebadged benz. I'm a fan of chrysler engineering and design, thats why I like them. If you make it immitate a euro car, why not buythe euro car because its not a chrysler anymore! I just think alot of people who are brand loyal would be lost if the brand just becomes a remarked benz.

You read me wrong on that statement... when I test drove a 300M in 2000, I really liked the interior. I just know that Chrysler and its divisions are notorious for cheap interiors (I know, I have a Dodge Ram). I'd hate to see such a powerful and good looking car sabotaged by a crappy looking interior. I don't want it to look like a benz or audi... I just want them to say, "Oh, people like nice leather, good looking gauges, and a hell of a sound system, and a real tightly toleranced vehicle..." and then follow through with those ideas.

That's all :) Hope I clarified my thinking.

This is kind of funny to me. I don't think you're necessarily wrong (frankly, I don't know what people think anymore). But in my case, I've never been a Chrysler fan. I only became interested when Daimler Benz bought them - it seemed to give an air of quality and made me a little interested to see what they had. Then when I saw the styles of the Sebring, Concorde, and 300M, that's exactly what pulled me in - the fact that theyt looked European. I like the style.

I ended up buying the 300M for many of the reasons you dislike - the European look, and the association with Daimler.

But ride in it, and you'll laugh your ass off at Urinal Mint's "cheap interior" comment.

A Neon may have a cheap interior because it's an econocar....but I'm expecting the next-gen Neon to match/exceed the interior quality of a Jetta. :)

Hey, easy there Pancho... I didn't call the car a turd or anything. I really dig the 300M, I dug the interior in the 2000 model, and I'll probably dig it again. I was just making a general point that most American automakers put crappy interiors in their vehicles. The 300M isn't typical... I know this.

Would it be better for me to just retract what I said in lieu of lambasting and rethought remarks?

I still wish Chrysler would bring back their performance line (particularly the Dodges) of cars. The Neon R/T isn't very fast, and the Stratus R/T is decent, but they need something that'll be head of the pack for it's class :)

Anyways, on to the 300N - the convertable looks utterly gorgeous, I can't wait for the new Hemi's to hit the street. The coupe is iffy, the front looks clean, but the headlights kinda kill it. And I hope that they tone down the "dome" look to it by the time it hits production, but we'll see. I really can't wait for those Hemi's....mmmm

Hey, it's all good, Mint.
I wasn't mad, I was laughing.

I only have one complaint about the 300M - a small one - that is, gas mileage in the city is HORRIBLE. IF you can get it out onto the interstate, it gets a respectable high 20's. But if you drive strictly in town, you're around 17.5 to 19...almost SUV level. The car sucks it down getting from 0 to 45. (I know, I know - don't jump off every light and stop sign. ;) But now that I'm trying hard to conserve fuel, I still have can't break 20mpg around town.)

Other than that small complaint, the car is HEAVEN. I'm a big fan of heated seats now...;)

You have to remember the germans aren't responsible for those, they came out before they had any control. What you're starting to see now would be what has the Daimler influence. I can't agree more I think the 300M is beautiful, but it had nothing to do with the germans :)
